The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 7: Dead Weight

A camp of some sort.  The Governor is washing clothes and Megan is thinking of her next chess move.  We flash back to Martinez looking down at the Guv and Megan in the pit.  Martinez hands his gun to someone and helps them out.  Lily asks him if he is okay and calls him Brian.  Martinez looks surprised. Martinez invites them to his camp.  One from his group says they already have too many mouths to feed.  Martinez tells him that they have a kid.  He turns to the Governor and tells him if they come with them they have to follow his rules.  Rule 1 Martinez is in charge and 2 no dead weight.  Contribute or be cast our, can he live with that?  The Guv tells Megan she can't think forever. Sometimes you have to make a move.  He won't let her win.  Just like his dad who used to beat him at everything.  She asks if his dad was mean, he says sometimes.  She asks if he was bad and he says sometimes.  Megan asks the Guv if she is bad because her dad was always mean to her.  Guv tells Megan they are all going to be okay because they are good.  She says it is his turn.  He says he is thinking. He looks around.  They are standing between a trailer and an army tank.

Water drips from the ceiling of their camper.  Lily asks him if he is going on a run today.  He says yes, with Martinez and two others.  She says she is going to set up a nursing station.  He apologizes for the state of the camp, he wanted something better for them.  She says the camp is fine, they will make it better.  He is out scavenging with the others.  When they walk by a lake he asks if there are fish and he is told there aren't any. They are walking through the woods looking for the site of some survivalist's house.  The Guv sees something.  It is the body of a man tied to a tree with no head and a sign that says liar.  They decide it is none of their business and move on.  Lily is mending the hand of some woman called Alisha.  Tara asks her is she was in the marines. Alisha was in the reserves.  They start talking guns and begin to flirt.  The Guv and the others find a house.  They find another headless body tied to a chair.  The sign says rapist.  They move closer to the house.  On the porch is another body, this one with a head and the sign says murderer.  It looks like suicide. The Guv finds a photograph of he man with his wife and daughter. They knock on the wall to attract any walkers inside.  They hear someone walking inside.  Martinez makes the Guv walk in first.  They make their way farther in the cabin, you can still hear someone inside making noise.   They get closer to the noise.  A door creaks open.  A female zombie attacks one of the men.  The Guv kills it.  Zombie heads moving on the floor.  Another female zombie attacks them and the Guv kills it.

Martinez says if the Guv had been alone in the pit he would have left him there.  He says the Guv seems different now, changed.  He asks if he is different.  The Guv says he is.  Mitch has found canned food and beer.  He tosses a beer to each one.  Mitch says the Guv knows how to regulate, you can't tell what he is thinking.  Mitch was an ice cream truck driver then a tank operator in the army.  When the world ended he took the tank with him.  Pete was a soldier in Fort Benning who stayed there for a while.  They ask the Guv what he did before and he says he survived when the world ended.

Back at the camp the girls are laughing that Martinez's dad was a priest.  Lily mentions this is the first time they have felt safe since the apocalypse started. Martinez says their old camp (referring to Woodbury) was really nice and safe.  Tara and Alisha head off.  Megan tells the Guv the roof is leaking again. Martinez tells him to fix it.  Martinez comes back and knocks on the door and tells the Guv he has a surprise. They are playing golf on the roof of the camper.  Martinez tells the Guv that Shumpert (the other Woodbury survivor) is dead.  He says that Shumpert was never the same after Woodbury fell.  He got reckless and a walker took a piece of him.  Martinez put him down himself.  Some things you just can't come back from.  Martinez mentions that the Guv's new family brought him back.  Martinez says he couldn't risk having a family again for the fear of losing them.  The Guv says he won't lose them.  Martinez says that now that the Guv is here maybe they could share the crown a little.  The Governor hits him on the back of the head with a golf club and then pushes him off the roof.  He drags Martinez over the pit where there are some zombies.  He keeps repeating the phrase "I don't want it."  He doesn't want power or doesn't want to share the power with Martinez?  The zombies drag Martinez into the pit.

Lily finds the Guv in their trailer later that night with Megan.  He is shaking.  He says he just had a bad dream.  She asks what it was and he says he can't remember.  The next morning Mitch announces they found Martinez in the pit.  He was shooting golf balls while drunk and fell in the pit. Pete says he is taking leadership of the camp.  Some old man pipes up and says they should vote on who becomes the new leader. Everyone agrees.  Pete tells everyone to calm down.  They need each other now more than ever.  They only way to survive is together.  He is only taking over temporarily until they can find a time to vote.  Pete tells the Guv to gear up they are going on a hunt. Pete asks the Guv for help leading the group (showing weakness in leadership).  Mitch waves them over.  They have spotted a camp of people.  Ten, maybe less.  They have a lot of supplies.  Pete suggests taking them in.  Mitch thinks that is crazy, he wants to rob them.  He knows that Pete doesn't want to hurt anyone.  Pete says no and they walk away.  Mitch is mad because all they have are a couple of squirrels and some condensed milk.  The Guv walks away.  He is back at the camp they saw earlier and we see that all of the people are dead.  Someone else came in killed them and took their supplies.  An old man reaches his hand up and Mitch stabs him in the head.

Lily and Megan are organizing the nursing supplies.  The Guv walks in and tells them to pack.  He says it isn't safe anymore.  Lily says she is the only nurse and Tara now has Alisha.  He says things are about to go bad. It has happened to him before and he can't lose them again.  She asks about Pete.  He said that he was a good man, but the Governor no longer believes that to be true.  He asks if she trusts him.  She nods yes and he tells her to pack her things.  They are now all in the car with Alisha.  He stops the car. There are walkers stuck in the mud in the middle of the road.  He just stands in front of them staring as they stretch their arms out to him.  He looks back at the car.

Back at the camper the next morning Lily wakes up and asks what he is doing.  He says surviving. He knocks on the door of another trailer.  It's Pete's trailer.  He says they need to talk.  Pete thinks it is about Mitch.  As he turns his back on the Guv the Guv stabs him.  The Guv then chokes him.  The Guv bangs on Mitch's door.  When he opens it the Guv is pointing his gun at him.  They sit facing each other.  Mitch asks where Pete is and the Guv tells him Pete is dead.  Mitch asks if he is going to kill him for killing the old man at the camp.  The Guv offers him some cigarette.  Mitch asks what he did to his brother.  The Guv says he doesn't care about the old man.  Men like Pete will always do the right thing even at the cost of their own people.  The Guv talks about the first time he had a cigarette with his brother.  Their dad found them and his brother took the blame for it (trying to be a hero) but they both got beat up anyway.  The Guv says he is in charge now.  And if Mitch joins him he will never have to worry about whether or not he is doing the right thing or the wrong thing. Because they will do the only thing  he offers his lighter to Mitch and lights his cigarette.  Mitch asks what they are going to tell everyone about Pete.  The Guv says they are going to tell them he died on a supply run people believe what they want to believe.  Everyone loves a hero.  He throws Pete's body into the lake.  The Governor is officially back.

People are building a perimeter and pits. They now have an armory.  Supply runs are arrows only.  They need the bullets and not just for zombies.  If anyone comes upon strangers ignore them and report them to the Guv and Mitch.  Later that night he is circling something on a map (the prison)?  He tells Lily maybe they can find a better place if they are willing to fight for it.  She says they don't need a better place, this is home.   The next morning Megan and Tara play tag. The Guv washes his injured eye but covers it up as soon as Lily comes in. She stops him and takes a hold of his face.  She tells him he doesn't have to do this alone.  Megan thinks she has caught Tara in their game but it is a zombie.  Tara tries to pull the zombie away but his leg falls apart in her hands.  The Guv shoots it.  Was this an accident or did he set this up to get people to think they are not safe there so he can convince them to take over the prison?

The Guv looks down in the water where zombie Pete is trying to get to him but can't because he has a weight around his ankle.  Is the lake his new zombie aquarium?  The Guv is in a car driving through the woods.  He stops and gets out.  He slowly walks through the woods and stops and looks at Rick and Carl farming at the prison.  He pulls out his gun but doesn't shoot.  He walks around with his gun and sees Hershel and Michonne chatting by her car.  He points his gun at her, cocks it, and then the screen goes to black.

Final Thoughts
- This is what David Morissey had to say about why the Governor killed Martinez: " I think Martinez makes the mistake of admitting weakness. He says to the Governor, “I’m not sure I can keep this place safe.” Had he turned around to the Governor on that day where he was playing golf and said, “There is no way this camp is not going to be safe. I’m going to make it safe. I’m going to do everything I can to make it safe,” then the Governor is going to say, “Great, I’ll follow you.” But as soon as the man admits weakness, then the Governor is going to take control. And the Governor is killing him and screaming, “I don’t want it!” What he doesn’t want is the responsibility. He doesn’t want the responsibility he is forced to take because of this man’s weakness. That’s very important. He’s putting a crown on his head that he doesn’t want. But nobody else but him is worthy of wearing it."  (from EW interview http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/11/24/walking-dead-david-morrissey-dead-weight/#more-152501)
- The Governor hates heroes.  He puts his brother, Pete, and Rick in this category.  Caring about others is a weakness yet he cares about Lily and Megan.
- What will happen to the Governor if he loses Lily and Megan?
- Will the Governor be able to take over the prison?  This will be his third attempt.  The prison gang is weakened by the virus deaths but they are still better trained.
- Who will die in the mid-season finale?  Hershel? Michonne?

The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 6: Live Bait

The Governor sitting in front of a camp fire.  Three tents behind him.  A zombie slowly approaches.  She walks right through the fire and crawls toward him.   He just stares ahead.
Martinez  shoots it in the head.   He looks fed up with the Governor.  The next morning the Governor wakes up by himself.  Martinez and the other dude left him.  He finds some giant truck and drives it through the gates of Woodbury.  He sets fire to Woodbury.  Zombies roam freely through its streets. Voice over, he has been on the road for a couple of months.  He is talking with some women.  He is talking about Woodbury, how it was safe but the man in charge lost it.  Barely got out alive.  He walks by himself.  He has grown a beard and is overall very disheveled.  He falls on the ground and looks up at a building. He sees a blonde girl at a window but she disappears.  He goes inside walking cautiously.  Laundry hands in the hallway.  A woman with a bat and a little girl are in a doorway (for a moment I thought he was hallucinating seeing Penny at the window).  Another woman, this one with a gun, comes to the door.  He puts down his gun.

The women have been there since the zombiepocalypse started.  One asks if he is planning on staying in the building.  He says just for the night.  Tara used to be Atlanta police and threatens to kill him if he messes with her family (that also includes an old man on oxygen).  The other woman, Lily, says they will hold on to his gun until he leaves.  He tells them his name is Brian Heriot (a name he saw spray painted on the side of some building).  Lily knocks on the door and offers him a plate of spaghettios.  He says thank you and throws the food out the window.  He goes back to eating his canned food.  The little girl and old man play backgammon.  Lily mentions that the little girl didn't eat.  She says it is because she is terrified.  They hear a noise at the door.  It is the Governor returning the plate.  Lily offers to make him some coffee.  The old man asks the Guv if he has a cigarette.  Tara offers him a slim jim (at least that is what it looked like to me).  They talk about how their dad used to be a truck driver and picked them up when the world ended.  They stole oxygen tanks.  The truck was full of food (it was from some food chain).  Tara asks him for help to get their dad up.  Eventually he stands up and picks up the old man and takes him to bed.  You can hear the zombies walking in the floor above.  The old man says that Tara keeps killing them but they keep getting back up.  He asks the Guv if he has kids.  The Guv says no.  The man says that when he had kids he finally figured out what it was like to be a man, a real man.  The old man asks the Guv to get a nice set of backgammon from another apartment so he can cheer up his granddaughter and get her to talk again.

The Guv goes to the apartment and finds the game under a bed.  He hears something and goes to the bathroom.  There is a wheelchair and two prosthetic legs.  A zombie lies in the tub.  He kills it.  He takes the gun the zombie had in its hands.

The Guv comes back and delivers the game.  The old man shakes his hand and Lily thanks him.  The Guv is back in his apartment.  He pulls out a picture of his family.  He folds over the corner where his face is.  The next morning Lily walks in while he is sleeping and sees the photograph.  She brings him a bag with some things for the road as a thank you. She tries to return his gun but he tells her to keep it, they need it.  He says he doesn't need it because he has the other gun he found upstairs.  He tells them they have to shoot the zombies in the brain.  She tells him that their dad has lung cancer and only two days worth of oxygen.  She says that there is an old folks home nearby and asks him get them another oxygen tank because he old man is the only one who can make the little girl smile).

He slowly approaches the old folks home.  He makes his way past a room with a zombie tied to a bed. Another zombie in a wheelchair reaches out to him but neither is a threat to him.  He closes the door on another zombie.  He finds a room with several oxygen tanks on a cart and he takes it.  You can hear several zombies.  He runs into a rum filled with zombies.  They come towards him and knock down the cart.  He grabs a couple of tanks and runs as the zombies chase after him.

He delivers the tanks of oxygen with blood all over his hands.  He hurries back to the apartment.  Lily comes to say thank you.  She has a bottle of rubbing alcohol in her hands and tells him to sit and let her be a nurse again.  She takes care of his injuries.  She says it feels good to have something to do.  No one ever mentioned how boring the end of the world was going to be.  Megan (the little girl) thought the Guv was her dad.  He ran off three years ago.  Megan is Lily's daughter.  Lily tells Megan to watch the Guv while she goes to get the ointment for his cut.  She asks about his eye.  He says that he wasn't born like that but that something happened to him.  He says he will tell her about his eye if she promises to keep his secret she goes to pinky swear but he doesn't know what that is.  He says he's a pirate but she says no way.  He says he was trying to help someone he loves very much from getting hurt.  She says he got hurt instead.  She asks if they got hurt too and he says yes.  She says she is sorry.

The Guv is setting up a chess board.  He is teaching Megan.  He is all cleaned up now.  He tells her pawns are like soldiers.  You can lose a lot of soldiers and still win the game.  She grabs the king and a pen.  She draws an eye patch on the king to make it look just like the Guv.  Lily comes out of her father's room and nods to Megan to let her know that her grandfather died.  She says she thinks he's been gone awhile.  The Guv tells them they should go now he is worried that the old man will turn soon.  The old man wakes up a zombie and grabs Tara.  The Guv grabs an oxygen tank and bashes his head in.  They all scream.  The Guv digs a grave for the old man.  He and Lily throw his body in it.  When they come back Megan hides behind a chair.  She is scared of the Guv.  Tara says she knows, they turn no matter what.  She says her dad almost got her.  She says her dad would have been grateful that the Guv stopped him.  So they're cool and she fist bumps him.   Lily shakes her head no to him and he leaves their place.  He sets fire to the photograph of his family.  I guess he finally let go of his old life (much like Carol).  He grabs his bag, knocks on their door, and says goodbye to Lily.  She says they are coming with him.  She knows that he had a family and that they are not it but he is stuck with them now.   He says he can't and she tells him he already has.

Lily and Megan are in the back of the food truck.  It is filled with their stuff.  She asks where they are going.  He says they will go where they let them (the walkers and the road).  Tara confesses she wasn't a cop, but she was in the academy.  She asks if she thinks they will make it.  He says they will make it.  Megan is still scared of the Governor.  In bed in the truck Lily moves closer to the Guv.  They start to kiss (the other are sleeping right next to them).  The next morning the truck won't start.  They each carry a bag.  Tara complains about some ex-girlfriend.  She trips and yells at her sister when she tries to help.  The Governor hears something.  There are a bunch of zombies down the road.  Megan just stands there.  The Governor calls to her and she runs to him. He carries her and they run into the woods with the zombies chasing them.  Tara is injured and Lily is helping her.  The Guv falls into a pit where there are zombies.  I think it is the old pit he used for Woodbury.  He kills all the zombies with his bare hands completely traumatizing Megan.  He says he won't let anything hurt her. She says promise and he says he crosses his heart.  Martinez looks over the pit and points a gun at them.

Final Thoughts
- Is this a new Governor or will he revert to his old ways when he rejoins Martinez?
- Will he lose himself again if something were to happen to Megan and/or Lily?
- Does he no longer need to exact his revenge on the prison since he has left behind his old life and now has a new "family"?

The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 5: Internment

Silent image of the road as Rick drives back to the prison.  He stares at the watch Carol gave him.  Dogs eat the body of a zombie lying by the side of the road.  Hershel, Glenn, and Sasha are trying to intubate a fellow member of their group in the quarantine cell block.  They succeed.  Glenn and Sasha are coughing so Hershel orders them to drink some tea.  Hershel says it's some council meeting.  He says they should have spaghetti night every Tuesday, but first they need to find some spaghetti.  He leaves Sasha in charge for the moment to help the man.  He asks Glenn to go with him on his rounds.  People are lying down and coughing in their cells.  They find a man dead on his bed.  Glenn is going to kill him but Hershel says not to do it in there (Hershel doesn't want to other sick people to see the second death).  Hershel brings a gurney.  Glenn says it is fine for now but what happens in a few more hours when others are dead, including Glenn.  Hershel tells Glenn to shut up (no one wants Glenn to die).  Hershel tells Lizzie to get his copy of Tom Sawyer and finish reading it by tonight.  He's trying to keep her occupied.  Hershel and Glenn take the body to another area of the quarantined cell block.  Hershel is reading something from the Bible.  Glenn has the knife in his hand.  As the man is zombified Glenn plunges the knife into his head.

Maggie is at the window talking to Hershel.  She asks where Glenn is, he was supposed to meet her.  He says that Glenn is tired from helping.  Maggie volunteers to help but Hershel says no.  She says he looks tired.  He says he is fine and that Daryl and the group could return at any minute and everything will be fine.  He tells her to hold on a little longer and that he loves her.  She says she loves him too.  Glenn tells Hershel thank you for stopping Maggie from coming in, if she had seen him she would have come in.  Hershel tells him to go lie down.

A giant group of zombies is at the fence.  Maggie is by herself trying to kill them.  She sees a car coming, it is Rick, and opens the gate for him.  He asks if Carl and Judith are okay.  She asks where Carol is.  He ignores her and asks about Sasha and the others.  She asks again and he tells her that Carol killed Karen and since Tyreese would be back soon it wouldn't be a good idea to have her around.  He tells her she can tell Hershel but no one else.  He asks if she would have brought Carol back.  She says he was right but she's not sure if she could have done it.  He tells her that she would have been able to.  She has done harder things.  I was surprised at how calm Maggie was at the news that Rick kicked Carol out of the group.  Is she really that accepting or is she just preoccupied at the moment thinking about Glenn and the others.  Rick goes inside and calls for Carl.  Rick asks if anyone is sick, if Carl has had to do anything (read: shoot someone).  Carl says he hasn't had to use his gun.  Rick tosses a bag with food for the others (which include fruit leather, yum, oh and don't forget to brush your teeth because dental hygiene is super important in a zombie apocalypse).  Carl mentions that he was around Patrick and Rick and he hasn't gotten sick.  Rick can't keep Carl away from it, from what always happens.  Rick says he still has to try.  This is basically the story of Rick and Carl since season one.  Rick tries to protect Carl from the zombies and violence of this new world but he can't.

Dr. S is not looking well.  Dr. S mentions that not everyone gets to live.  End stage is a point no one gets to come back from and he is not going to be around much longer.  He tells Hershel he has made IVs.  It will happen very quickly.  First one, then another, and another.  He shows Hershel a gun he snuck in.  He tells Hershel he has a chance to live.  He tells Hershel to make sure everyone's doors are shut.  Dr. S is staring to bleed from the eyes, nose, and mouth.

Hershel is shutting everyone's cells.  A man stumbles out coughing up blood.  People start to come out of their cells.  The man dies.  Hershel pulls out his knife.  He sees everyone looking down at him.  He tells everyone to get back in their cells.  Sasha walks out and grabs the gurney.  She helps Hershel load the man on it.  He tells her to go rest.  Hershel takes the man away and grabs his knife.  He goes to kill him but hesitates.  Then he covers him up with a sheet and plunges the knife into his head.  Rick calls Hershel's name.  Hershel says it is the third one today.  They have been burning them.  "A sad soul can kill quicker than a germ."  That is why he didn't want the sick to see him killing the dead.  Rick tells him that they see Hershel keep going on even when all of the choices go away.  Rick asks if it is not going to be like it was.  Hershel says no.  Rick just caught a break.  He got lucky, they all did.  But Hershel still believes there is a grand plan.  Life was always a test.  Rick tells Hershel he needs to talk about Carol.  We don't see Rick tell him but we see Hershel's face.  Hershel is walking in and sees Sasha's feet sticking out of her door.  He walks past a cell where a girl is dead.  That girl is now a zombie.  He didn't close her door because he was distracted by trying to save Sasha.

Rick and Maggie are putting wooden posts up against the fence trying to keep it up.  He says that Hershel looks good.  Maggie asks him if Carl was sick would he be up there.  He says if he thought he could help.   A zombie grabs his leg.  She chops the arm off.  He says he's glad she is with him.
Hershel is with Sasha.  She is now awake.  She was just dehydrated.  She doesn't believe in magic, luck, or gamble but she wouldn't be here now if it weren't for Hershel.  Glenn is with the intubated man when he no longer hears the man breathing.  He feels for a pulse and then starts performing CPR.  He calls out for Hershel but starts coughing up blood.  Hershel keeps closing cell doors.  He asks a man how his son is doing.  The man responds that the boy is sleeping.  Lizzie finds Glenn and notices that the man is now a zombie and she calls out to Hershel.  The woman zombie starts to attack Hershel.  The man from earlier comes out with a gun but his son is now a zombie and attacks him.  The man accidentally shoots a woman trying to help Hershel.  Lizzie is leading the other zombie away from Glenn.  She talks to him like he is a dog not a zombie.  Rick and Maggie hear the gunshot.  Rick tells Maggie to go and help.  She is reluctant, but agrees to go.

Rick is inside the prison calling out to Carl.  Carl comes, he heard the shot.  Rick says he needs Carl's help.  Lizzie accidentally trips and the zombie falls on her.  Hershel comes up and grabs the zombie from behind and pushes him over the railing.  He puts Lizzie and another little boy in a cell and closes the door.  Glenn still can't breathe.  Maggie tries to break the door open with an ax but can't get in.  Dr. S is now a zombie; Hershel kills him.  Hershel is loading the gun in Dr. S's cell.  Hershel cocks the gun but doesn't shoot the zombie because Lizzie and the little boy are looking at him.  He leads her by making noise.  Maggie makes her way to the conversation window and shoots it.  Hershel finally starts shooting the zombies now that Lizzie and the others can't see.  Hershel is trying to help Glenn but he doesn't have any equipment with him.  He heads back and finds the zombie that was intubated.  Maggie comes in and shoots a zombie.  He tells her not to shoot the intubated zombies because they need the equipment for Glenn. She shoots the zombie and avoids damaging the medical equipment.   Hershel has the intubation tube and intubates Glenn.
He keeps telling him stay with them.  It works.  Glenn is breathing.  Maggie tells Glenn he is going to be okay, they are going to be okay.  Hershel tells her that he didn't want her in there.  She says she had to just like he had to.  Lizzie comes to them and asks if it is over.  Maggie says she hopes so.  Lizzie plays with the blood on the floor with her shoe (there is something seriously wrong with this girl).

Carl is helping Rick outside to keep the fence up.  Rick looks proudly at Carl for a moment.  Then the  posts start breaking under the weight of all the zombies.  The fence bursts open.  Rick tells Carl to run.  They both run towards the prison.  The zombies keep coming and are banging against the door.    Carl asks what they are going to do.  Zombies are pushing against another part of the fence.  Rick and Carl grab guns from a stash.  Rick shows Carl how to use the machine guns.  He tells Carl to shoot or run.  Don't let the zombies get close.  The zombies bust through the fence.  Rick and Carl start shooting at them.  They fall down one after another.  Rick and Carl are still shooting zombies and refilling their magazines.  Rick struggles to kill a zombie and Carl shoots it instead.
Rick looks at Carl as he would Daryl, another adult helping him kill zombies.  He still wants to protect Carl but in this moment Carl protected him instead.  Carl isn't that innocent little boy from season 1.  He is equal to Rick.  Carl and Rick kill off the last of the zombies.  They hear a car.  Carl sees that it is Daryl.  He tells Rick everything is going to be okay.  They open up the fence.  Tyreese asks how Sasha is doing.  Rick says he doesn't know.  Tyreese cradles Sasha in his arms.  She is wheezing.  Bob is making up the medicine for Glenn.  Maggie tells Hershel to rest now that Daryl and the group are back.  Hershel slowly makes his way downstairs.  He stops in Dr. S's cell.  He pulls out his Bible but shuts it.  Hershel sits and cries. Is this the end of Hershel's faith or just a momentary pause after the day he has had?

The next morning Rick walks out to the yard of the prison.  Michonne is clearing away the zombies from the night before.  He offers his help but she declines.  Carl runs after Rick.  Carl says that Rick didn't wake him up (harkening back to the first episode of this season).  Rick wanted him to sleep.  Rick says that he has to talk to Daryl and Carl asks if he has to do that now.  Rick says no (conveniently putting off the discussion he doesn't want to have with Daryl).  Glenn is breathing on his own now.  Daryl says that both Glenn and Hershel are tough SOBs.  Daryl asks where Carol is and Hershel tells him to go talk to Rick.  Hershel asks Michonne if is she is heading out.  She says yes and asks if he wants to come.  He says hell ya and gets in the car with her (he needs a little road trip after all that happened).  Rick and Carl eat peas from a plant on the farm.  The Governor looks on from outside of the prison.  The Governor is back!!

Final Thoughts
- Is Lizzie's view of zombies tainted by her time at Woodbury watching the staged zombie fights?  Or is she just creepy?
- What kind of revenge does the Governor have in store for our gang?
- Will we find out who has been feeding the rats?  Did they die of the recent outbreak?  I assume whoever it was has been working with the Governor.  I get the feeling the Governor has been keeping an eye on the prison for some time (pun totally intended).
- I don't want to see Rick and Daryl's friendship end when Rick finally tells Daryl about Carol.
- Scott Wilson did a fabulous job in this episode.  Lets get this man nominated for an Emmy and/or Golden Globe!
- Another potential spin off I would watch: Hershel and Michonne out on the open road.

The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 4: Indiferrence

Rick is wrapping his injured hand.  Carol is holding a knife.  Lizzie approaches Carol and speaks to her through a window.  Rick is gassing up a car with what little gas they have left.  They are going to get food.  Lizzie says no one has died yet but she says she is glad they get to come back.  Carol tells her that when they come back they are different.  Lizzie replies that it is no different to her than when she gets older and is still herself but a different person.  She is not weak but strong.  Carol tells her that if she is in danger she needs to run until she is safe and she can't be afraid to kill.  Rick imagines Carol killing Karen (literally stabbing her in the back).  Lizzie calls Carol mom and Carol tells her not to do that.  Lizzie says she is not afraid to kill just afraid.  Carol tells her to fight the fear and not give up because one day she will change, they all change.
Carol tells her she is going on a run with Rick.

Tyreese is washing his shirt.  Daryl tells him it is time to go.  Bob tells Tyreese that there is a town a few miles away and that it helps to keep moving.  Tyreese says it doesn't.  Daryl picks up a rock, a piece of jasper that someone back at the prison asked him to keep a look out for on their trip.  Michonne flirts with him and says it is his color.  Daryl and the gang come upon an old gas station where the numbers for the price spell out the word hell.  Daryl finds a car and tries to hotwire the car but the battery is dead.  Zombies pop up at the window to the station.  They start to clear the plants.  Tyreese starts to attack the plants and Daryl tells him to go easy.  Tyreese accidentally opens up the door with his machete and zombies start  coming out.  Daryl kills his zombie and Michonne helps Bob.  Tyreese won't let go of the zombie so Daryl pulls it off of him and Bob shoots it.  Michonne asks Tyreese why he didn't let go but he doesn't respond.

Daryl and Bob are inside the gas station and they find a battery.  The cells look dry but some distilled water will fix that.  Michonne asks Tyreese if he wants to die.  Does he even know what he wants to do?  Anger makes you stupid and stupid gets you killed.  If the Governor were there she would kill him but she is no longer angry.  He asks why she still goes looking for him and she says she doesn't know.  They find another zombie trapped under some rubble.  Bob looks at some photographs of the people the zombies once were.  He then stabs the zombie in the head with the key to the bathroom.  Daryl asks Bob about the group he was with before them.  Bob says he was the last man standing in two groups and was tired of being the witness.  He almost walked away and didn't join the prison group.  He would drink himself to sleep every night.  He tells Daryl about picking up the bottle at the Big Spot and says it was his fault that Zach died.  Daryl tells him that's crap.  Daryl tells Bob that he and Sasha picked that spot and no one could have known what would have happened.  Bob is no longer alone.

Daryl and group arrive at the veterinary school.  They start grabbing supplies.  Bob finds a bed with some books on it.  Was someone living their?  What did he grab?  Bob tells Michonne to grab anything that ends with cillin.
They have everything they need so they start to make their way out.  Daryl spots some zombies and they start running.  They make their way to some dark room where the door won't close.  Tyreese helps Bob close it as zombies start pounding on it.  A zombie attacks Tyreese and he kills it.  They try to unlock the stairs but a bunch of zombies are behind it.  The other zombies start coming through the door but Bob won't let them kill those because they are infected with the virus.  They open the door to the stairwell, kill those zombies, and make their way upstairs.  Daryl and the gang are being followed by the virus infected zombies.  Tyreese breaks a window and they climb out.  Bob almost falls but some zombies are holding on to his bag full of medicine.  He won't let it go.  He pulls it out and a bottle of liquor comes out.  Daryl tells him he should have kept walking that day.  He goes to throw the bottle and Bob says don't and makes a play for his gun.  Daryl gets in his face and takes away his gun.  Tyreese tells him Bob has made his choice.  Bob said it was just for when it gets quiet.  Daryl threatens to beat his ass if he takes one sip before everyone at the prison gets the medicine.  Bob is pretty much dead to Daryl.  Daryl knows what it is like to live with drunks and drug addicts.  In the car Daryl is looking at the rock he picked up.  Michonne says he was right about the trail going cold for the Governor.  She doesn't need to go out anymore.  He says good.  Silent car ride back to the prison.

Awkward time in the car between Carol and Rick.  She mentions that Maggie wanted to come.  Rick says he needed someone to look after things while they are gone.  Carol says he means he wanted someone he could trust to stay behind.  She tells Rick that Karen and David would have drowned in their own blood and she made their deaths quick.  She had to stop the spread of the disease.  Somebody had to.  Rick just says maybe.  Rick and Carol arrive in some neighborhood.  They look inside a car that has a clean windshield.  It couldn't be there more than a day.  They are going to search the medicine cabinets.
Rick and Carol carefully enter a house.  Rick makes his way to the bathroom and starts pulling things out of the medicine cabinet as Carol keeps a lookout.  A zombie falls down the stairs.  Carol just stares at it and Rick pulls her out of the way.  She stabs it in the head.  Another door opens and a young couple come out of another room and throw them some fruit.  They are not zombies but Rick still points his gun at them.  The couple are named Sam and Ana.  They met while trying to help feed people.  Ana has a bad leg.  It was trampled on and didn't heal right.  Sam has a hurt shoulder and says he cut it on a greenhouse where they got the fruit.  Then zombies showed up and they had to hide.  His shoulder is dislocated and Carol pops it back into place.   Rick looks amazed.  After the greenhouse they hid in the house for two days.  They didn't use their gun because they are terrible shots and they sound surprised  when Carol asks why they didn't use their knives.  They ask about where Carol and Rick live and Rick begins asking them the three questions.

Sam asks Rick if they passed the test.  Rick tells them about the prison and the virus.  He can't guarantee their safety.  Sam and Ana want to help gather supplies.  Rick says they will double back for them.  Carol tells them they should help search the houses.  Rick isn't sure but they want to help.  He gives them each a gun and tells them if they fire a shot they will come running.  He gives them his watch so they know when when to meet up in two hours.  Carol complains the medication has expired but Rick says that should be up to Hershel to decide if it is of use or not.  He asks if she thinks it is right that they asked them to come back with them.
She says if they can help them survive than it was the right call.  She says it was about facing reality so they can live.  You can be a farmer but not just a farmer.  He was a good leader more than she gave them credit for.  She mentions that he killed Shane because he was going to kill him.  She did the same thing with Karen and David.  They were going to kill them all.  Rick grabs some tomatoes growing outside.  He asks how she learned to fix a dislocated shoulder.  She says the internet. She needed to learn because of her ex-husband.  She didn't think she could be strong, but she already was.  He asks why she doesn't say Sophia's name.  She says because she is dead.  That was another life.  He tells her some morning he still expects Lori to be there when he wakes.  He reminisces about the awful pancakes Lori used to make every Sunday.  They continue around the houses and find peaches and a basket strewn on the flood.  They follow a trail of blood and find Ana's leg.  They keep looking and see two zombies eating Ana.  Carol tells them they should head back.

Rick and Carol are waiting for the dude but he is late.  Rick wants to wait.  Carol says he might be fine but it doesn't matter.  The kid is not there and they have to go.
Rick and Carol have the car all loaded up.  He says that Karen and David might have lived.  It wasn' her decision.  When Tyreese finds out he will kill her.  If the others don't make it back he won't have her there with Judith and Carl.  He is kicking her out of the group.  She said he was done making decisions.  She did something instead of pretending everything was going to be fine.  He said she didn't need to.  She wants to leave with Mika and Lizzie but he won't let her.  She will survive out there.  He takes out her backpack.  Rick helps Carol load up a car.  She gives Rick a watch that her ex gave her on an anniversary.  She should have given it away a long time ago.  She drives off.   Rick driving by himself.  What is he going to tell everyone?  He keeps looking in the rear view mirror.  Is he doubting his decision?

Final Thoughts
- How is everyone at the prison going to react to Carol's banishment?  What will the council say to Rick making a decision when he is no longer a decision maker for the group?
- How is Daryl going to react to Carol's banishment.  Will he no longer be Rick's second in command?
- What is going to happen to Bob?  Will he drink or sober up completely?  Will his curse as the last man standing affect the prison group?  Is his story of being the final witness a foreshadowing of things to come?
- What happened to Sam?  Will we see him again?
- I agree with Chris Jericho's comments on the Talking Dead.  This episode was about letting go.  Michonne let go of her anger and search for the Governor.  Daryl let go of Bob's friendship.  Michonne tried to help Tyreese let go of his anger over the loss of Karen and the possible loss of Sasha.  Rick let Carol go from the group.  And I think he also let go of "Farmer Rick."
