The Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 13 "Do Not Send Us Astray"

 The cost.

Morgan in the woods shakes his head as he stares at a truck. He turns around and sees dead Gavin staring at him. Gavin says, "You know what it is. You were supposed to." Morgan yells no and tries to attack Gavin but he disappears. He hears a horn honk and rushes to his car and pushes the horn. Several people from Alexandria and Hilltop honk their horns. Henry asks for a gun but Ezekiel won't let him fight. He is to guard the house. Henry appeals to Carol but she says if he goes he will die. Ezekiel orders him to protect the Hilltoppers. Siddiq helps a Hilltopper in their medical building. She tells him he doesn't know enough of anything and that is more dangerous than not knowing anything at all. He knows he hasn't done a lot but he is ready to help. "Stop asking me what I've done and start telling me what to do besides where to put the damn blankets." She says she likes him and to get ready. Night falls on Hilltop. Jerry sees the caravan of Saviors arriving and he signals to Maggie.

The Saviors drive over nails on the road destroying their tires. Simon orders the Saviors to remove the nails. Maggie is heard on the walkie asking to talk to Negan. Simon answers saying he is Negan. Maggie answers that she is the widow. He says he is speaking on behalf of Negan. He says her people are going to have to pay. She says his 38 Saviors are alive but they won't stay that way if they don't leave. She allows Alden (the blonde Savior) to speak over the walkie. Simon says screw those captured Saviors. "Our goal is not merely infection, it is conclusion." Dwight says that this isn't what Negan would want. Negan could still be alive. Does he want to face Negan and the consequences if Negan shows up? Daryl drives towards the Saviors shooting at them. One of the cars follows him into Hilltop just as a school bus is driven in front of it. The Saviors get out and are shot at by the Hilltoppers. Saviors shoot arrows in retaliation. Maggie orders the Hilltoppers to lock the prisoners in her office. Alden says he wants to fight for her but she won't let him. Maggie wonders where "he" is. Is that Rick? The fighting continues. Tobin gets cut but just as a Savior is about to finish him off the Savior is shot. Carol goes over to him and he is bleeding badly. Simon gets mad at Dwight for not participating in the killing. Siddiq goes to help Tobin. Daryl sees Tara is about to be attacked by Simon so he calls out to her. She turns around Dwight shoots her with an arrow. A light goes out at the house and Michonne tells Daryl that is the signal from Maggie. Ezekiel and Rosita shoot out all of the headlights of the cars. Silence. Simon peaks out around a car. He can't see anything. All is dark and quiet. Simon orders the Saviors into position. Simon and his group are to go into the house and slaughter those they find. He begins to whistle. Lights come on from some cars and the the Hilltoppers inside the house shoot at them from the windows. As they run out the gate Jesus, Rick, and some others meet them with gunfire. Rick makes his way into Hilltop killing Saviors. He almost gets Siddiq but notices who he is just in time. Morgan walks through Hilltop and sees ghost Gavin who repeats, "You know what it is." Morgan ignores him and continues. The Saviors leave and Maggie and Rick shoot at them. She wanted all of them dead. Negan most of all. Rick says he did too. Rick didn't see Negan at Hilltop. He saw him earlier and tried and failed to kill him. She thanks him.

Zombies bang on the walls of Hilltop. Maggie tells Enid they don't have the resources for another attack and she should prepare to leave. Daryl tells Tara she shouldn't be up and about but she says it was just a scratch as she rubs her arm. Daryl is mad that Dwight is back with the Saviors. Tara says that they were lucky that they ended up with Maggie. She reminds him that she used to be with the Governor. He says she was with them but not a part of them. She says even Merle was with the Governor. Daryl responds, "My brother ran the wrong way his whole life." He says if Merle was still alive and he had stayed with him they would have joined the Saviors or someone like them. He asks her if she's fine with Dwight killing Denise. She says she will hate him forever but has forgiven him since he saved her life. Daryl points out that he tried to kill her last night. She says that he helped her in the woods. He tried to help them win. Daryl responds, "I saw what I saw too."

Rick takes planks off of the windows in a bedroom. Michonne comes in with a turnip for him. He is opening the windows because the kids will need air in the heat. She offers to clean his cut but he wants to finish what he is doing first. She begins to take the planks off another window. He tells her he saw Negan at the back of the convoy. He had to try to kill him.

Jerry digs graves for the dead. Alden is brought to Maggie. She cuts off the ropes on his hand and tells him a guard will go with him outside the gates so he can bury his people. He says they are not his people and he is glad they are dead. He goes to bury them. Maggie asks Dianne what's wrong. Dianne says Maggie is a good leader. She saved lives. Maggie looks down at the row of graves and says lives were saved because those fallen sacrificed their lives. She only kept the prisoners because Negan is still alive.  She sent Negan the box to make him mad and lure him to Hilltop. "I wanted my husband's grave to be the last thing he saw. Even if it came at a cost. I don't know if that makes me a good leader. I do know that the only regret I have is that Negan is not in that pile of bodies."

Carol checks in on Tobin. He says if he knew getting stabbed would get her attention he would have done it sooner. She apologizes for leaving how she did. He doesn't need an apology. She doesn't owe him anything. He wants to know if their relationship was real. She didn't want it to be real. She was pretending. Trying to live a life. She couldn't handle more death. She was scared about not pretending. He asks if she is going to leave again. She doesn't know. "I think I might just accept that some of us are lucky enough to just live, some of us are lucky enough to just fight." He asks, "Even after it ends?" She answers, "I don't think it ends." He says the end of the fight is what they are fighting for. She says, "Winning just means we get tomorrow. Maybe one more night. Maybe one more morning. After that, no guarantees." Jesus locks up the prisoners. We see Henry grabs a gun. Zoom in on the grandfather clock.

Ricks reloads his gun. Siddiq offers to treat his wound so it won't get infected. He tells Rick there is a prayer for the dead. It ends "Do not send us astray after 'them' those who died . . ." Rick interrupts him and walks away. Maggie checks on the injured. Everyone is sleeping in the main house. There are people all over the floor. She asks one of the men if he is okay. He says they are lucky to have her. Gregory was all about himself. Maggie's not like that. She nods and looks over at her people sleeping on the floor. Tobin sleeps. His gasps and takes a final breath. He dies at 2:13 am. At 3:26 am one of the Hilltoppers wakes up and checks on one of the injured who has a fever. Tobin has reanimated and attacks the man as he goes out to get the doctor. A woman on patrol notices the door to the infirmary open. She looks in and sees blood but before she can do anything Tobin gets her too. Inside everybody sleeps. The reanimated dead walk in through the open door. The man Maggie was talking to earlier has also turned. He falls down the stairs as the others come in.

Henry walks outside towards the prisoner holding pen with his gun. He taps Gregory on the shoulder. Gregory wants him to let him out. Henry wants to know who killed his brother. Gregory says he doesn't know because he is not one of them. Gregory wants Henry to give him the gun. He says killing the Saviors won't bring his brother back. Henry says it might not bring his brother back but it will make him feel better. Alden wakes up. Henry says he will start shooting the prisoners until someone tells him who killed Ben. Alden says his brother died too. He says killing the Savior won't make him feel better for long. He knows. Screaming can be heard coming from the house. The house is in chaos. People are being eaten by zombies in the dark. Daryl kills one of the zombies.  Ezekiel kills another one. Siddiq asks for Rick's help to cut off the arm of one of the men bitten by a zombie. Michonne kills a zombie and Jesus guides people out. Henry asks Jared if he killed Ben. Jared says he doesn't know what Henry is talking about. Henry unlocks the gate and comes in. The Savior all raise their hands as he aims their gun at them. Alden says that he was also mad when his brother died. He says, "But words are a lot easier to live with than actions, all right?" Henry announces, "Be a man, step forward, so I don't have to kill all your friends." He begins to count to ten. A zombie bites one of the  Saviors. Chaos ensues. Henry begins to shoot but is tackled by Jared. Jared takes the gun and tells the Saviors to run. Gregory looks down at Henry and then runs away.

Rick, Morgan, and Daryl go through the house killing zombies. Daryl wants to know what happened. The zombies are all their own people. Zombie Tobin attacks a woman. Carol comes to her aid. When she sees that it's Tobin she stares but still kills him. When the others arrive she tells them that Tobin wasn't bitten but he still turned.  Rick tells them that when he last saw Negan his bat was covered in zombie blood. They figure out Negan's plan. The man that is lying ill on the bed says it is the fever. It makes sense now (why he has a fever). He looks at his arm and asks them to kill him. He begs. Tara, Rosita, and Enid are in the room with the babies. Rick walks in and tells them the house is clear. Tara asks how it happened and Daryl tells them the Saviors infected their weapons. So the injured turned. Tara just says okay. Daryl says to Tara, "When we were out there, and you said you were done waiting, I coulda killed him. I shoulda." Tara says that Dwight wanted to be with Rick's group. "And no matter what he did or how hard he tried, I wanted him dead. I just couldn't let it be anything else. Karma's a bitch, right?" Siddiq runs through Hilltop. Alden helps him. Maggie and some others point their guns at him. He tells her several Saviors left but some are trying to close the gate to keep the zombies out. Maggie shoots a zombie. Siddiq tells her came to check on the prisoners but found the empty pen. Maggie asks where the Saviors went. Alden tells her they just ran. She wants to know why he didn't run. He says, 'You saw what we mean to Negan and Simon. Which might be a dumb thing to say it doesn't make us worth much to your people either, but those of us that stayed, stayed. We had plenty of chances to run."

The next morning Carol and Ezekiel look for Henry.  Enid tells them that Henry broke into the pen before the Saviors escaped. They run to look for Henry. Morgan stays behind. Ghost Gavin appears again saying the same thing. Morgan shakes his head. Gavin screams the same thing over and over. Jerry and Jesus dig more graves. Dianne asks Maggie, "What is it?" Maggie says, "The cost." She looks out at three rows of graves.

Final Thoughts
- I believe Dwight shot Tara on purpose to stop Simon from hurting her. The question is whether or not his arrows were poisoned with zombie blood. I don't think they were. I don't think he would do that to Tara.
- Where is Henry? Did the Saviors take him? Did Gregory grow a conscience and come back for him? Or did he run after the Saviors?
- I'm glad that Tobin got some closure from Carol before he died.
- I like that Siddiq stepped up this episode. He didn't take any crap from the doctor at the infirmary. He tried to reconcile with Rick but that will take some time. Rick isn't ready to deal with Carl's death so he can't deal with Siddiq. But it does look like he might by the end of the season. He quotes Siddiq in those scenes where he is bleeding and crying.
- Is ghost Gavin referring to the fact that Henry killed him instead of Morgan and that Morgan lied to Henry?
- Will Hilltop accept Gavin and the other penitent Saviors? They chose to stay when given the opportunity to leave.

The Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 12 "The Key"

A book of medieval achievements so we may have a future from our past.

Negan smiles. Simon looks around. Dwight looks worried.  Dwight pulls out Sherry's wedding ring. Negan welcomes Dwight back to Sanctuary. Dwight keeps up the charade of the ambush. Negan tells him good job. I'm not sure he believes him. Zombies are getting their guts removed by Saviors. They dip their weapons in the zombie blood and guts. Negan laughs. Dwight looks around at the preparations the Saviors are making. Simon announces they are going to scare the people at Hilltop. No head shots just flesh wounds. He wants them to turn. No killing. Simon tells Dwight Negan doesn't need him so he will be riding with Simon. Dwight says he wants to go scout ahead but Simon says they already have people doing that. The Saviors load up into cars. Dwight joins Simon in his car. Negan dips Lucille into a bucket of guts he has in his car. He smiles.

Rick and Michonne arrive at Hilltop. Michonne hugs Maggie. Rick stares at the Savior prisoners. He shrugs off Michonne and goes towards Judith. He looks over at Daryl and Daryl nods. He got Judith to Hilltop safely. Rick stares at a grave. Daryl comes up to him. Daryl says "You know, I look around and I think about the people that are gone and the people that are still here. It ain't right. And it ain't fair." He apologizes for what he did at Sanctuary. He just wanted to end it with the Saviors, no second chances. "And I didn't care who was there. I don't know if that makes it right or  . . ." Rick says they should have only worried about their own people (forget the workers at Sanctuary). Rick says he is ready to fight. Maggie has lookouts every half mile ready to signal when the Saviors come. Daryl wants to go with Rick but Rick thinks they should split up. Daryl agrees reluctantly. Rick says he is okay. Then he changes it to he's going to be okay. He thanks Daryl for getting everyone to Hilltop. Rick speeds out of Hilltop. Maggie and Rosita look out from the gate. Maggie asks Rosita if she thinks Rick will come back from this. Rosita responds, "Have you come back? I just keep going." Maggie looks back at the house and sees Enid reading the letter from Carl and Michonne sitting on the steps. She says they will come back too. Rosita says it will be harder when the fight is over and it is quiet. Maggie disagrees. When Negan dies she'll be fine. Rosita agrees with her. Maggie sees something and looks out with binoculars. A crate with a note is out in the field.

Simon asks Dwight what he makes of their little road trip. Dwight answers, "Opportunity to close. Nothing wrong with that." Simon wants to get candid. Does he really believe Rick and his people will cower at yet another warning? Dwight says they don't get paid to think. Simon says he values Dwight's opinion. Simon has doubts about the plan. They (Rick's people) keep fighting regardless of what they throw at them. They don't scare.

Rosita pulls up to Hilltop. In the back of her car are the crates Maggie saw. She hands Maggie a note that says, "If you fill the crates with food or phonograph records, I will gladly exchange them for a key to your future." The note also includes coordinates for a meeting spot. Michonne says this isn't the Saviors. Maggie thinks it could be a trap. Michonne believes it could actually be someone who wants to help. Maggie is willing to risk missing out on help from a stranger in order to be safe and stay alive. Michonne thinks they could be careful. Enid says that being careful is staying at Hilltop. Michonne volunteers to go. Rosita wants to go with Michonne. Enid says that Rick wants all of them at Hilltop. Michonne says, "But the last time we took at chance like this it changed everything." Eventually Rick will understand. Maggie decides to go because her people are starving besides Jesus's best efforts at scavenging. Enid wants to accompany her and Maggie agrees. She's going to go grab some records and wants Enid to get some extra bullets so they are prepared for any outcome.

Rick sits on top of his car listening to the Saviors over his walkie. They are ordered to stick to their plan and not engage. He looks out through his binoculars and sees the caravan of Saviors. He goes to honk his horn but pauses. He sees Negan driving alone. He gets in his car instead and heads in their direction.

Simon sees Ricks' car as he drives down the street. Rick hits Negan's car. Negan speeds away but Rick follows him closely. Simon orders Dwight to tell the other to stay put and keep their guard up. The Saviors all get out of their cars. Simon tells the other Saviors to stay put. He and Dwight will go investigate. He orders them to block the street and keep the perimeter. Negan lies at the bottom of his car. He is covered in zombie blood and guts. Rick shoots at Negan. Zombies come out attracted by the sounds. Rick ignores them and goes after Negan. He follows him into an abandoned building. Negan laughs when he realizes Rick is out of bullets. Rick throws his ax at him. Negan dives out of the way and almost falls. He drops Lucille and hangs from the second floor. Rick goes to cut his hand with the ax when Negan lets go and falls down into a big hole in the floor below.

Michonne, Maggie, and Enid arrive at the meet up spot. They see a big van and two people standing waiting for them. One of the people opens up a car door and a blonde woman gets out. Her name is Georgie. She introduces her friends as Hilda and Midge. When she asks for their names and gets no response she says she knows they are suspicious but also curious. She tells them she doesn't accept spoken words records. "If you're out here, you know you can take care of yourselves. And I like that.  I don't care to share this with the weak." Maggie says, Good. Rosita comes up behind them. They aim their guns at Midge and Hilda and disarm them. Georgie isn't armed. Maggie demands that they give them what they have. Georgie says she has knowledge to trade. "Essential knowledge for the future, primarily in my head, and, uh I prefer to keep that where it is." She's made that offer before. Rosita asks her how many communities they have found. Georgie says not many like Hilltop for a very long time. "What you have is special, unusual. The dead have brought out our best and worst, and the worst has been outpacing the best lately, but that won't last forever. If, perhaps, people can believe in people again, four crates of goods is worth far less than a sustainable future and perhaps an exercise in trust." Enid tells them to stop. This isn't real. No one survives doing what they say they are doing. Georgie says she can tell they are a fine group. Michonne wants to make a deal but Maggie says they will take them back to Hilltop.

Rick whistles as he walks in the dark. He uses his lighter to see. He calls out to Negan to see if he is still alive. Negan responds that he is like a cat. Negan looks for Lucille. A zombie can be heard growling. It approaches Negan and he runs. Rick asks where are his Saviors? They didn't go very far. He announces, "This is where you die, in the dark, all alone." Negan wants to know what is Rick's problem. Why didn't Rick just let Negan save him? He said no one at Hilltop or Kingdom died until Rick Grimes got involved. Rick hears zombies and uses his lighter to read a board that has eaters written on it. Negan picks up a pipe and then throws it on the floor. He says Rick failed Carl and his people. But there is still hope for Rick. He's offering a one-time deal in the memory of Carl. If he can get Hilltop, Kingdom, and Alexandria to fall in line then he is forgiven and the deal is back on. He will even lower his take from 50% to 25%. But Rick has to work for Negan as a janitor. Rick asks why he should accept any offer from Negan after what Negan did to the Scavengers. Negan has no idea what Rick is talking about. Rick tells them he wiped out all of the Scavengers. "Is that how you 'save' people?" Negan realizes that Simon lied to him. Rick once again asks why the Saviors haven't come to rescue Negan. "It's times like these that you realize who you're true friends are. No one's coming for you." Rick chuckles. He bends down and picks up Lucille.

Simon says that Dwight must have thought about killing Negan. Dwight replies very sarcastically that he never did. Simon points out that Dwight did what he had to do to live. "If it was my call we'd say enough. We'd branch out, we'd find new places, we'd make new relationships. We'd make sure the Saviors survive, as you chose to. And we'd move on from past discomforts as you wisely chose to." Dwight laughs. Simon wants to know what Dwight thinks. Dwight asks, "Just move on?" Simon replies, "Just move on." They find Negan's car. They are not sure if the blood belongs to Negan or the bucket he had. Simon says they can keep looking or walk away, go back to Sanctuary and make things better for their people. A zombie approaches. Dwight pulls out a cigarette and lights it. He flicks the cigarette at the car and it catches fire. Simon says, "Good answer."

Georgie and her two friends sit in front of the house. Jerry keeps Maggie updated on the situation. Michonne says they should let Georgie goes. Maggie won't. Georgie has crates of food in her van and the people at Hilltop will soon starve. Enid says that Maggie's right. "We stop pretending that things just work out. They don't." Michonne mentions that they now have a doctor because Carl rescued Siddiq. She takes Enid's gun away. She says, "Carl was brave." Enid replies, And now he's dead." Michonne orders her to step back and Enid walks away. Maggie says, "Things don't just work out." Michonne answers, "No. No, they don't. But I think he knew that. He didn't give up on who Rick wanted him to be. And we can't, on who he wanted us to be. We can't." She walks away. Maggie looks over at Judith and Gracie.

Rick tells Negan that sooner or later Negan was going to meet someone like him. "You can't save anyone because you don't care about anyone. . . The only thing you care about is this bat. You can't even save that." Rick lights Lucille on fire and breaks the boards blocking the door holding the zombies back. Negan tackles Rick to the ground. Zombies spill out of the door. Rick picks up Lucille and uses her agaist the zombies. Negan comes up and Rick swings at Negan. Rick smiles as more and more zombies surround them. Negan calls Rick a sociopath and tackles him. He grabs Lucille and starts making his way out when Rick attacks him. Rick fights off zombies and follows Negan out the building. Negan is nowhere in site.

Maggie comes out of the house with a crate filled with records. She will fill Georgie's four crates and then she can go. Georgie accepts but changes the terms. She is going to give Maggie some of her food stores. She says they need it more than her people. Maggie wants to know what Georgie wants in exchange for the food. Georgie says records and good faith. "To be clear this isn't a gift, it's barter. I'll be back. Maybe not for a while but I will, and by then, I expect great things." She gives her the "key" to the future. A packet with plans for a windmill, watermills, silos,  guides to refining grain, creating lumber, aqueducts. "A book of medieval achievements so we may have a future from our past." Maggie thanks her. She wants Maggie to build up Hilltop. When she comes back she expects the other crates to be filled. Maggie says, "We'll see what we can do." Georgie replies, "You will." They get in their van and leave. Enid confesses to Michonne that she killed Natania. "So I killed her, and I'm alive, and Carl saved someone and he's dead. How the hell are we supposed to do this? Are we supposed to just stop fighting?" Michonne says, "I don't think Carl wanted us to stop fighting for our future. But I think he was telling us that, to get to our future, it's gonna take more than just fighting." Enid says the Saviors are on their way. Michonne says they will fight them. "But there's gotta be something after."

The Saviors are waiting. Simon and Dwight return. Simon tells them that Negan is gone. Dwight says all they found was blood. One of the Saviors asks what they are supposed to do. Simon asks who he is and the Savior replies Negan.  They are all Negan. They are still Negan. He says Negan could be back. Negan's plan was to scare the people at Hilltop. But now it's time to accept the only thing left for them to do is to expunge the people of Hilltop. "They are a mistake that we shall now erase. We are moving on." Dwight does not look happy with the new plan. Negan sits in the passenger side of a car.  He looks over to the driver and sees it is Jadis and she has a gun pointed at his head.

Final Thoughts
- Yvette Nicole Brown made a good point on the Talking Dead that all the scenes with men involved violence and destruction while all the scenes with women were about building.
- Maggie chose to trust instead of taking at the end and it played out for her benefit. She could have become the Governor or Negan but chose the higher path instead.
- Michonne is trying to help Enid from going to the dark side like Rick intervened with Carl. I hope it works.
- According to The Talking Dead Hilda and Midge are twins. Interesting.
- Daryl wanted to obliterate the Saviors and that backfired on him will the same things happen to Simon?
-  I find it ridiculous and hard to believe that Negan survived that fall, Rick shooting at him (and missing every time when that rarely happens), and a swarm of zombies. I'm done with TV shows and movies making characters impossible to kill. It really bothers me on this show since they don't have a problem killing off characters.
- What is Jadis going to do with Negan?
- Since Georgie came through on her part of the deal and seems to have given them useful information I am going to trust her. For now, at least. She could out to be like the Governor.

The Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 11 "Dead or Alive Or"

 We're on the right path, even if we are on the wrong road.

Saviors on a bridge hear over the walkie that Dr. Carson and Father Gabriel have escaped. We see Daryl with the surviving Alexandrians under the bridge head into the woods towards Hilltop. A zombie comes out of the woods and attacks Dwight. He fights it off by himself even though he has an injured arm. Tara stands back and watches. Dr. Carson and Father Gabriel sit in a car. Gabriel is looking at a map. They are lost on their way to Hilltop. Gabriel is having problems seeing. A zombie drags itself across the ground.  Carson is worried that the infection is damaging Gabriel's eyes. Gabriel says that Carson is supposed to be at Hilltop with Maggie. He needs to have faith. "We're on the right path, even if we are on the wrong road." Carson doesn't believe that God is leading the way. The car isn't starting and the zombie is approaching.

Dead zombie. Carson checks Gabriel's vision. Carson says he was stupid for letting Gabriel leave. Gabriel is too sick. Carson hid antibiotics at Hilltop. Their conversation stops when Gabriel hears a bell. They walk through the woods toward the sound. They come upon some buildings. Gabriel sees it as their salvation but Carson looks worried. Rosita stops Daryl. The rest of the group is way behind them resting. Tara asks Daryl why Dwight is still alive. Daryl says the fighting isn't over but Tara is done waiting. Daryl just replies, "Not now. Not yet." Rosita agrees with Daryl. It looks like Hilltop is fortifying their walls. Morgan, Henry, and Carol are at Hilltop.

Morgan wants Carol to get Henry to eat. Carol wants to take over for Morgan. Jared calls out to Morgan. He thinks Henry is creepy and wants Morgan to take him elsewhere. He says the Saviors are going to come rescue them. Henry interrupts him and asks who killed his brother. Carol tells Henry to go eat. Henry begins to protest. Morgan tells him to go and he obeys. Carol says that neither Henry nor Morgan are fine. She orders Morgan to take a break. He walks away. Carol takes his place watching the captured Saviors as Maggie looks on.

Negan is disappointed with Eugene. He wants to know how Gabriel and Dr. Carson got away. He says they will be brought back and he will get the truth out of them. Eugene asks what happened to Alexandria. Negan responds, "Do you care, Eugene, after they tried to blow you off the face of this Earth?" Negan says he is going to put Eugene in charge of his own outpost. Eugene will be making bullets so they can settle this thing with Rick. Negan tells him about the set up of the outpost. Eugene wants to know if there will be wine. Negan says there will.

Gabriel sits in a cabin. He shakes a piggy bank and laughs. He doesn't look good. He grabs a pad of paper and tries to read what it says. Carson tells him to lie down. The person who owned the cabin was a radio operator. Carson reads the pad but it is just a script for a radio message for other survivors to hold on. According to the logs there was no signal. Gabriel believes the person who lived there used the message to survive. Carson opens up a bedroom door to find a zombie handcuffed to a bed with a plastic bag over it's head. There are pill bottles and a bottle of booze on the floor. This must be the radio operator.

Daryl, Rosita, and Tara discuss which way to go. Dwight says Negan won't send Saviors down to the swamp because it was considered too dangerous. Tara doesn't trust Dwight. The Alexandrians don't trust Dwight. Dwight says that he not only turned on the Saviors, he killed them as well. But one Savior got away and when Negan finds out he will go after Dwight. "I chose my side. This is it. I'm here to help you beat Negan, After that, well, I know how it ends." Daryl says they will try the swamps. Tara is not happy.

Maggie sits in her office looking at baby Gracie. Knight walks in. The inventory shows that rations are low and they will have to be cut by a third in order to make it through the week. The numbers are worse if the prisoners are included. Jesus is out scavenging. Carson tells Gabriel to lie down. Gabril hands a bottle of pills to Carson and asks him to read them. Carson finds two bottles of antibiotics. Carson says the dead man may have saved Gabriel's life. Gabriel responds, "I'm not saying a word."

Daryl says that even if Dwight's plan works it won't change anything. Dwight tells Daryl that everything he did was for Sherry. Sherry let Daryl out before she escaped. He hopes she is still out there. They arrive at a large swamp. They kill one zombie in the water. A few Alexandrians volunteer to clear a path. Dwight wants to help but Daryl won't let him. Tara stays back with the group.

Maggie walks up to the prisoner pen to speak to Gregory. He says he has been behaving so he wants to leave. The blond Savior says they have all been behaving. He tells her they don't have to be enemies. He wants time outside for good behavior. She says they don't have the resources for that. She tells them she is cutting off their rations for a few days. Her people come first.

Rosita looks back at Tara. She steps on a zombie and kills it. Daryl and Siddiq come upon several zombies stuck in the swamp. Dwight says they have to clear them out. They make their way across killing the zombies. Tobin plays with Judith. Zombies walk through the woods. Tara volunteers Dwight to help her kill them.

Gabriel's fever has broken but his eyesight is not improving. If it doesn't get better soon the damage could become permanent. Carson asks Gabriel if the thought of losing his vision scares or angers him. Gabriel responds, "I'm letting Him lead the way." He can feel the look of skepticism on Carson's face. He knocks over the piggy bank and inside are car keys and a map. On the map is Barrington House at Hilltop.

Dwight kills a zombie. Tara has Dwight kill the last zombie. He apologizes for killing Denise. He doesn't expect her forgiveness. She points her gun at him. He drops his knife and tells her he hates the Saviors and Negan. She doesn't care. Killing him will make her feel better. She shoots and he runs. She chases after him. She catches up with him and points her gun to his head.  He says, "I new it was gonna happen. I just wanted to help you win first." They hear Saviors and hide in the bushes. She still points her gun at him.

Carson and Gabriel look for the car. Gabriel hears banging. He looks up and sees a sign that reads "Danger traps in yard." Carson steps on a trap and a zombie approaches. Several zombies go towards Carson. One of them gets it's foot caught in a trap. Carson shoots two of them but a third one causes him to lose the gun. Gabriel looks for the gun, finds it, closes his eyes, and shoots the zombie. Carson says, "You did it." Gabriel says, "I think I might have had some help." Carson laughs.

The Saviors say they are going to the swamp. Dwight comes out of the bushes. The Saviors thought the was dead. They want to know what happened. He says they were ambushed but he got away. He asks what happened to Laura (the Savior that escaped). No one has seen her. They are out there looking for the Alexandrians. He says he just came from there and leads them away from the Alexandrians. Tara runs back and finds Rosita. Rosita saw Tara running after Dwight. Tara asks why Rosita didn't stop her. Rosita replies, "No one could've stopped me." Daryl yells at Tara. He's worried Dwight will tell Negan everything. Tara says he won't. He led the Saviors away from them. Rosita backs her up. Daryl begins to yell about how he will deal with Dwight but stops the minute he sees Judith. He leads the group into the swamp.

Carson and Gabriel make it to the car. Some Saviors find them. They drag them back to their vehicle. Carson says the Saviors must have heard the gunfire. Gabriel responds, "He's still leading the way. Believe it, and you'll see it." Carson smiles and says, "I think I do see it." Carson grabs a Savior's gun but is shot. Gabriel says no over and over again. He begins to cry.

Daryl and the Alexandrians arrive at Hilltop. Carol runs to meet them. She smiles but stops when she sees Daryl's face. He shakes his head and says no. Maggie comes and we see Enid crying. They know about Carl. Maggie holds Enid. Henry asks Carol how Carl died. Carol says he was helping a stranger. Morgan tells Henry that Gavin killed Ben. Henry killed Gavin. So they are even. No more need for revenge. Siddiq thanks Maggie for her hospitality. He says it's everything. He asks if they have an infirmary and he tells her that he has medical experience and can help.

Eugene makes bullets at his new outpost. One of the wives comes up to him and tells him he was destined for it. She wants to help. He gives her his dinner order. He tells her where to put the food and declares that the official cafeteria. He tells her that soon his brow will need wiping. He is interrupted by Negan who comes in with Gabriel. He says Gabriel told him how he escaped. Gabriel says Carson helped him escape. Negan brought Gabriel to help. He can't see but his hands still work. Eugene tells Negan they only have a few bullets. Negan isn't happy. Eugene suggest rigging several catapults with zombie parts and throwing them at Hilltop. Negan likes the idea. He says, "Big day tomorrow." Eugene approaches Gabriel. Gabriel says, "I thought I found it. What I was meant to do." Eugene says he has. "Get sortin'."

Maggie and some of her crew approach the prisoners. She announces the prisoners will be taken out of the pen in pairs for exercise and medical attention. Gregory and blond Savior are the first to go. They will clean out the stables and receive quarter rations. Gregory says they should consider evacuating. He asks, "How can we win?" She responds, "How can we lose?"

Negan has his Saviors out by the gates of Sanctuary. He hits one of the zombie gates with Lucille. It begins to bleed. He rubs Lucille in the blood. He is going to use zombie parts as biological warfare against the people of Hilltop. The people at Hilltop will learn to tow the line dead, alive, or somewhere in between.





Final Thoughts
- The conversation of faith versus science between Carson and Gabriel reminded me of Lost and the conversations between Jack and Locke.
- I'm fine with Morgan lying to Henry about who actually killed Ben. Henry is going towards the dark side and does not need to know that his brother's killer is right there in Hilltop.
- How long will Dwight be okay at Sanctuary. They think Laura is dead but she could still be alive. How long will he be able to stay at Sanctuary even though he hates it?
- I liked how no one verbalizes that Carl has died. You just see the characters react to the news in silence. The scene is more powerful that way.
- I wonder how Negan's biological warfare idea is going to play out.

The Walking Dead Season 8 Episdoe 10 "The Lost and the Plunderers"

What we should do when we have a choice.

Michonne

Michonne stares at Carl's grave. Rick places Carl's gun on the cross marking Carl's grave. Michonne kills walkers wandering around Alexandria. Rick changes his mind and grabs Carl's gun. Michonne looks around at the remains of Alexandria. She closes the front gate as walkers try to make their way in. The door gets stuck so she just begins to kill walkers one by one. Rick grabs a walkie from a dead Savior. He walks past Michonne. They don't say a word. Michonne goes to their house. She notices the hand prints that Carl made with Judith. She places her hand over Carl's hand print. She looks up to see several walkers coming down the street. She walks in the house and tells Rick they have to go. They each carry a bag with them that they load into the back of a van. She stops to look at the gazebo that is on fire and remembers that Carl used to sit on it's roof. She runs towards it carrying a fire extinguisher. Rick joins her and together they put out the fire as walkers begin to surround them. Rick has to call her several times before she stops and runs towards the van with him. The gazebo remains on fire. Zombies are taking over Alexandria. It's a safe zone no more. Rick asks her what she thinks Carl meant when he said they had to stop fighting the Saviors. Does that mean surrender? She suggests they pull over and read the notes Carl left for them. He is not ready to do that yet. Carl left a note for Negan. Rick says he needs to talk to Jadis. Her group has weapons and people. The Saviors saw Jadis with Rick so now they are a target too. He says the weapons belong to them not the Scavengers. They quietly make their way to the doors of the Scavengers home. A booby trap was set and a bunch of garbage falls down behind them blocking the doors. Zombies come out of nowhere and surround them.

Negan

Negan calls over the walkie to look for Rick's group. He tells Simon that the Alexandrians escaped and that Carl played him. "That kid, that kid is built for this shit." Simon followed Negan's orders for dealing with Alexandria. Simon asks about Gavin but they haven't heard back from him yet. Negan wants Simon to deal with the Scavengers. Negan still sees them as a resource and wants Simon to deliver the standard message and kill one of them so they will fall in line. Simon says, "Maybe we should cut out losses here. These people can't learn the lesson no matter how many times we teach it. Alexandria, Hilltop, Kingdom, these garbage rats, they're not seeming to understand the situation. Not one little bit. So maybe we learn our lesson, scrape the plates into the trash. Move further out. Find other communities to 'save'." Negan doesn't not like this idea. Negan says that saving people is hard but it works. Simon says not lately. Negan says that once he takes care of Rick everything will be fine again. A knock on the door and several Saviors bring in the box with the dead Savior that Maggie sent as a warning. Simon opens the box carefully and Negan kills the zombie Savior inside. Simon realizes that Hilltop has his people hostage. Negan gets mad when Simon wants revenge. He orders Simon to do his job.

Enid

Aaron explains to Oceanside that he and Enid came to ask for their help. Cyndie gives Enid a dirty look. They handcuff them to a radiator. One of the women asks Cyndie what to do with them since she was Natania's granddaughter. A little girl suggest that they kill Enid and Aaron. Aaron tries to tell Enid that everything is going to be okay but she is not worried about that. She responds, "She made me kill her. I'd do it again." The women come in and take off the cuffs but then handcuff them individually. One of the women orders them to be taken to the beach. Aaron tells Cyndie she has to own the decision to kill them. Enid tells Cyndie that she better have a good reason for killing them other that to feel better about her grandmother's death. She says, "Killing is the punishment." This will only lead to revenge from Alexandria and eventually the death of everyone at Oceanside. She says if they let them go they will keep fighting the Saviors and Oceanside can keep hiding. Cyndie lets them live. Aaron wants Oceanside to help them win the fight against Negan. She says they have already taken everything they could give. Letting them live will be their contribution to the cause. She tells them to never come back. Enid replies, "Stop trying to kill strangers. We know who we have to kill. We know the difference between friends and enemies. You should, too." Cyndie warns them to never come back. Aaron tells Enid to go to the car because he wants to go back to convince Oceanside to join the fight. He wants Enid to tell Maggie what he is doing. He tells her he'll be okay and she makes him promise that she'll see him again. He makes her promise that she will be okay. She hugs him and they go their separate ways.

Simon

Simon tells his group they are going to the Scavengers home. He shows up with his men and the Scavengers aim their guns. He says they are friends and Jadis nods in agreement. He tells them he is going to need an apology. He tells her he knows about the deal she had with Rick even though they already had a deal with the Saviors. She says she didn't have a deal with Rick. She delivered him to the Saviors but they shot at her. Simon says that's crap but Negan is willing to forgo punishment if they agree to their original deal and give them their guns and ammo. Brion says that was not their deal with Negan. Simon says the Saviors need the guns and as a sign of good faith between friends so the Scavanger will give the Saviors their guns. Tamiel says there is danger everywhere so they need their guns. Simon says they don't need the guns because the Saviors will protect them. Jadis agrees to the deal. The Saviors take the guns. Simon admires Jadis's artwork. He asks why they chose to live in a dump. She says, "Our place. Ours." He asks about the helipad and solar panels. She says this place was a dump. He says, "I wanna know if you know." He still wants an apology. She says there is remorse and he shoots Brion. She repeats that there is remorse and he shoots Tamiel. She yells at him. He doesn't believe her so he orders his men to begin shooting. Simon drives back to Sanctuary. Negan comes up to him and asks if he got it done. Simon asks what's wrong and Negan says he hasn't heard back from Gavin. He sent a group out there. Negan asks how it went and Simon says it was the same as always. A Savior walks up to Negan with a walkie and tells him Rick wants to talk to him. Negan takes the walkie.

Jadis

Rick shoots at the zombies but there are too many. He and Michonne begin to climb the trash heap. Jadis calls out to him. She is not in her usual outfit. She is an a nightgown. They ask what happened and she tells them the Saviors came. Michonne asks how to get out. She tells them the only way out is through the doors they used to get in. The zombies are all her people that the Saviors shot. The dump didn't used to have heaps it was just a dump. Before the zombiepocalypse she would go there to get things to paint on. "I realized this whole place was a canvas. That we were the paint. We could create something new. We could become something new. We did. This was our world. Apart from everyone else. In every way." He tells her this was all her fault. He grabs a car door to use as a shield so they can run for it. Jadis asks to go with them. Rick says no. He is done with her games and she can't help them anymore. Rick and Michonne use their shields to push past the zombies and out the doors. Jadis follows them. For a moment it looks like he is going to shoot her but he shoots into the air. She is chased away by zombies. We see her thumping a pipe on the ground calling the zombies to her. They can't get passed a chain. She turns on a shredder and unlocks the chain. The zombies fall in one by one. She stares down at her artwork as it is splattered with the bloody remains of her people. She cries as she sees her friends go. She relives the Saviors slaughtering her people. She lies on the platform then makes her way down. She uncovers a box that is labelled as applesauce. She opens a can and eats.

Rick

Rick tells Michonne that he shot above Jadis's head and he saw her make it. He didn't want her dead just gone. She says, "Feels like what Carl was talking about. What we should do when we have a choice." He pulls the van over. He needs a second. He grabs the walkie and the pile of letters Carl wrote. He walks out towards the woods. He has the note for himself and the one for Negan. He reads the note Carl left for Negan. He calls over the walkie for someone to get him Negan. Negan gets on the walkie. Rick tells Negan that Carl's dead and that he wrote letters asking for both of them to stop. He asked for peace. Rick says it's too late. He is going to kill Negan. Negan wants to know how Carl died. He asks if it was the Saviors that killed him. Rick says Carl was bitten when he went out to help someone. Negan says he is sorry. He wanted Carl to be a part of things. "That kid was the future." Rick responds. "The only future is one where you're dead." Negan says Carl is dead because Rick wouldn't leave well enough alone. "You set this course, Rick, Who's next?" Rick says, "You are!" Negan says, "I stop people from dying. I am the answer. You could have just let me save all of you. You failed as a leader, and most of all, Rick you failed as a father. Just give up. Give up, because you have already lost."

Final Thoughts
- Helipad? Did the Scavengers fly the helicopter Rick saw earlier this season? What were they using it for? Will we ever get an answer now that Jadis is alone?
- Jadis should join Oceanside.
- What will happen to Aaron? I'm not sure he can convince Cyndie and the others to help. They have lost so much.
- Who else will die before this war is over?
