You don't mess with the new world order.
The RV makes its way down the road towards Hilltop. Aaron sits with Maggie who is curled up. Rick comes to check on her. He tells her that doctor at Hilltop will make things better. "Everything we've done, we've done together. We got here together and we're still here. Things have happened but it's always worked out for us 'cause it's always been all of us. That's how I know. 'Cause as long as it's all of us, we can do anything." Morgan bandages Carol's wound. He tells her she needs stitches and antibiotics. They will stay there for the night but at dawn they will head back and get her help. She says no. Abraham sees the Saviors and man blocking the road ahead. Abraham asks. "We doing this?" Rick says no. He gets out of the car followed by the others. He has his hands up. The Saviors say the man was "someone who was worth a whole lot of someones who didn't listen." Rick says they can make a deal. The man says yes if they give them all of their stuff. They will probably kill one of them but then they can move forward with business. Rick says he was about to ask them for their stuff but he won't have to kill any of them, any more of them. One of the Saviors shakes a can and sprays it on the man lying on the road. The Savior says they don't negotiate. Rick says he and his people are leaving. He signals for his group to go and they get in the RV. Rick asks if he wants to make today his last day on earth. The Savior responds, "What if today was your last day on earth for you? For someone you love? What if that's true? Maybe you should be extra nice to those people in that RV. 'Cause you never know (snaps his fingers) just like that. Be kind to each other. Like you said . . . like it was your last day on Earth." Rick replies, "You do the same." and gets in the RV. Abraham backs up the RV.
Light in the darkness and muffled voices. The RV stopped on the side of the road. A walker makes its way across the field. Carl asks Aaron why he didn't stay in Alexandria. "I owe her. Why did you come?" Carl replies "I owe them." Eugene and Sasha look for an alternate route to Hilltop. Morgan tells Carol that Rick came looking for her as well. Everyone in Alexandria is waiting for them. She says she won't go back just because he tells her so. She says she can't go back. He says she has to go back because she cares about her friends. "If you care about people. There are people to protect. There are people you will kill for. If you don't wanna kill or can't then you have to get away from them. You do not get both. you should know that." Morgan replies, "No, everything's about people. Everything in this life is worth a damn. That's what I know. And out here on your own, you'll die." "Then let me die." she says. He can't do that. "It's not your decision just go. I said go." She points her gun at him. "Please, just go. If you care about anyone there is a price, Morgan. And you're gonna pay it. I have, and I can't anymore." Abraham asks Sasha if they could have a baby. "Doing something as big as that." "Could you?" she asks. "Ya, I could. Now." he responds. They come upon another group of Saviors blocking the road. Sasha asks if they are making their stand. Carl says, "Ya, we end it." Rick, "No not now. . . We're gonna play it our way. How we want it." They back up. One of the Saviors fires his gun in the air. The RV drives away.
Morgan goes outside towards the sound of zombies. He finds one hanging from the side of a building. Several others push against a fence drawn to the sound of the hanging zombie. Morgan climbs up and stabs it in the eye. He then cuts it loose. He walks inside the library and calls for Carol. She is gone. He gets on the horse and goes off to find her again. The RV is down to half a tank of gas. Abraham says the men are different individuals but same soldiers. He stops the RV. A group of zombies block the road. They have been chained to each other. Abraham stays in the RV while the rest get out to kill the zombies. Eugene comments, "Putting together a red rover like that takes people. A lot of them." Carl notices something. Aaron says "That's Michonne's." Her clothes are on a zombie as well as some strands of her hair. Sasha notices Daryl's clothes on another zombie. As Rick goes to kill the zombie shots ring out. They are being fired at from the trees along the road. Rick cuts the zombies free by cutting off the hand of the zombie that was wearing Michonne's clothes. They kill the zombies. The RV drives on.
Rick looks down at the pieces of Michonne's hair. Rick notices that the gang were firing at their feet. They are going in the direction the Savior's want them to go. Aaron tells Rick that Maggie is burning up.The side of the RV has bullet holes. Abraham calls to Rick An even larger group of Saviors blocks the road. Rick tells Abraham to go back. Morgan comes upon a recently killed zombie. He sees a bloody rosary on the ground. Carol makes her way past an abandoned building. As she walks a banging sound can be heard. A zombie is in a dumpster. She closes the door locking it in. Another zombie comes up from behind and she struggles to kill it. She pants and is attacked by the Savior from the truck who had her rosary. He gets her gun. He tells her he will probably die soon. "You're gonna lie there and I'm going to watch you die, slow. Just like my friends did back on that road." He shoots her in the arm.
Light seeps through bullet holes. Voices can be heard. Maggie asks Rick if they are close. He says they are getting there. He tells he she and the baby are going to be okay. This isn't it. This isn't it. There's gonna be more." She replies, "I believe in you, Rick." Carol lies on the ground in pain. She smiles. The Savior asks what is wrong with her, why is she smiling. "I'm going to die so there's nothing wrong with me anymore." The Savior smiles and shoots her in the leg. "You think you've suffered enough now?" Carol, "No, probably not. What? Are you done? Unless you kill me know I'm not going to die. You decide. The world doesn't decide. You decide. You don't get to walk away and get what you want." He comes back and points the gun at her. Morgan tells him to stop. He aims his gun at the Savior. "You can survive this. You can. Drop it, please. The Savior says no and Morgan shoots him six times. He checks on Carol. She says "Would you please let me go." He tells her it is not her turn. "You're gonna come back from this." Two men approach him from behind One of them asks what happened here. Morgan says he found the man's horse and his (Morgan) friend. She needs help. The man nods to his friend. "Then lets get you some help." He shakes hands with Morgan.
Final Thoughts
- Glad to see Father Gabriel stepping it up. Not so sure if I trust Spencer. Lets hope he's stopped drinking.
- When Carl tells Aaron "I owe them." I believe he is referring to the Saviors and getting his revenge on them.
- When Rick cut the arm of the zombie in the zombie red rover it reminded me of Rick cutting off Jessie's arm.
- Who put up the sign "You are alive."? Was it the group from the library or the group that the two men Morgan met at the end of the episode?
- So I was totally wrong about Carol dying.
- The man the Saviors hanged belonged to the group of dead people Carol and Morgan found at the library. Were they part of a larger group or just a small community? We may never know.
- It's interesting to see Carol come around to Morgan's point of view. Carol has gone to the extreme by wanting to die. She was going to let that Savior kill her so she wouldn't have to kill anymore. Will Morgan be able to convince her to live? That it is possible to not kill and still fight to save those you love?
- I'm assuming the horse Morgan found belonged to the man he encountered at the end of the episode who is the same man that he and Rick encountered in previous episode. SPOILER ALERT: I am assuming he comes from The Kingdom which is another community that trades with Hilltop. I think that is why they are wearing armor and riding horses.
- While I am sure that the dark space with muffled voices was Daryl and the others in the back of the Saviors' van the thought did come into my head that it could be Enid hiding out in the RV. In one scene they had Rick look down at the side of the RV and the camera zooms in on the bullet holes. The show doesn't do that by accident. I could be totally wrong but it would be interesting to see if she got out of the closet and sneaked into the RV. Also, I don't think Enid would be of much use protecting Alexandria if she is locked in the closet. What was Carl thinking?
- The Saviors led Rick and his group exactly where they (The Saviors) wanted them to be. They were corralled by their enemy just like the people of Terminus corralled them. Only this time one of the group paid for it with their life. This will definitely get to Rick. This is the second time this has happened to him. The second time he has led his people to danger.
- So let's talk about who we think died at the end of the episode. I am going to break down the chance a character has of being Negan's victim:
- Abraham - He's on the top of my list. This season he has chosen to love Sasha (a woman he chose versus just someone who was there). He is ready to spend the next 30 years with her and have a baby with her. That is a huge decision to make in the zombiepocalypse. He also made peace with Eugene after their big fight. SPOILER ALERT: In the comics he died by an arrow through the eye but the show decided to use that to kill Denise instead. They could use this as an opportunity to kill Abraham in an unexpected manner since he dies in the comic. Chances of dying: High
- Eugene - He finally learned to fight. He showed Rosita that he could be a fighter despite being afraid. He has been taking an active role in the plans for Alexandria's survival and growth (see sorghum and bullet making). He stood up to Abraham and proved that he was a survivor. He was willing to sacrifice himself for the group. He said his good-byes to everyone. The most poignant good-bye being the one he had with Abraham. Chances of dying: High
- Glenn - He barely escaped death earlier in the episode. He has the most to lose since he is married and about to be a father. SPOILER ALERT: In the comics Glenn is the one Negan kills. They could decide to give his death to someone else (see Abraham and Denise) or the show could pull a bait and switch and kill Maggie instead. Or, they could assume we would expect them to kill someone else and decide to kill Glenn anyway. Chances of dying: High
- Maggie - She has the most to lose. She is married and pregnant. Her death would not only destroy Glenn but the viewers as well. As I've stated before I think she could die instead of Glenn. Chances of dying: High
- Sasha - She has found love with Abraham and may have a baby with him. Chances of dying: Medium
- Daryl - He is injured. He feels guilty over the death of Denise (since it was his crossbow). This past season he was the one telling Rick that they should look for other people to bring to Alexandria. He helped Dwight and that led him to lose his bike and crossbow, which led to Denise's death. He is a beloved character and that puts a target on his back. Then again, people might stop watching the show if they kill him. Or riot in the streets. Chances of dying: Medium
- Rick - As the leader his death sends a message to the people of Alexandria and make them more submissive to the Saviors. I still believe that Rick will survive this zombiepocalypse. Like I've said before he is like Harry Potter. Harry Potter is the boy who lived and Rick is the man who survived. He managed to survive being abandoned in the hospital during the zombiepocalypse while in a comma. If that doesn't say survivor I don't know what does. We were introduced to this show through Rick. Chances of dying: Low
- Carl - As Rick's son he has a target painted on his back. Negan could use his death as a way to control Rick (especially if he finds out about Judith). His death would be a big blow to the Grimes gang. However, I see him as the ultimate survivor. He is a child of the zombiepocalypse. He is no longer the little boy that would run off to play by himself without thought of the dangers of this world. He has survived more than many of the adult characters on the show. Chances of dying: Low
- Michonne - Now that she and Rick are finally together and the Grimes family is one her death would hurt not only Alexandria's leader but his children as well. Her story line this season has been to figure out what she wants. I'm not sure she is there yet. An unfinished story line makes her less likely to die at this moment. Chances of dying: Low
- Aaron - He went on this trip to support Maggie. He still feels guilty about the part he might have played in the wolf attack. Other than that he hasn't had much of a story line this year. His death wouldn't have much of an impact on the show as much as some others would. Chances of dying: Low.
- Rosita - Her big story line this year was breaking up with Abraham. She has been in the background the rest of the season. I don't see her as a big enough character for such a shocking death. Chances of dying: Low
Sound off below and tell me your theories. Who do you think is dead and why? We have six long months to hash this out.
