The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 15: Us

Glenn
Eugene talking about how some think the zombie virus killed the dinosaurs. Tara picks up a penny from the train tracks and gives it to Eugene.  He goes on talking about video games. Later on that night Abraham sits next to Tara. She tells him to go to sleep. He says he won't leave Eugene's life in her hands. He will go with them until he finds a new vehicle. He tells her she needs to sleep. He hasn't seen her sleep yet. He thought it was because she was in love with Glenn until he noticed how she looked down Rosita's shirt during dinner. He asks if it was something she did or didn't do. It was something she did.  She says they both have their missions. What will he do when the mission is over? No response. The next morning they stumble upon one of the signs Maggie left for Glenn. Glenn runs down the tracks with a big smile on his face. Maggie's alive!

Abraham tells them they are going to stop at this spot.  "Tired is slow.  Slow is dead." They all need to rest. He understands Glenn needs to find Maggie but Abraham has a mission too they are there to protect Eugene.  He says they will go rest in the tower.  A zombie comes out from the second floor of the tower and falls towards them. Tara hurts her leg but says she can go on. Rosita says that Tara will do anything Glenn says because she thinks she owes him. Glenn  makes a deal with Abraham.  If they keep going until sun down Glenn will give his riot gear to Eugene right then and there.  Abraham accepts the deal.

As they continue down the tracks they come to a tunnel.  Glenn finds another message from Maggie. It is still wet which means they are gaining on them. Abraham is apprehensive about going through the tunnel. They can hear zombies growling. He can't guarantee Eugene's safety and knows Glenn won't delay going the long way so they will part ways. Tara stays with Glenn. Abraham gives them two cans of food an a flashlight. Glenn apologizes for hitting Abraham in the face. Abraham is not sorry he likes to fight. Rosita gives each of them a hug. Eugene says they are both good people. He tells Tara that she is hot. She replies that she likes girls. He says he was aware of that (I doubt it). Abraham says that if it gets too dangerous they are doubling back to the last road they were on. Glenn tells Tara he knows what she is going through. When this all started he was numb all day long. She says she knew the Governor's idea of raiding the prison was bad. She found her girlfriend dead and saw her sister get swarmed by zombies.  The worst thing she saw was the death of Hershel. That's when she knew. The Guv told them they might have to kill people and she was the first to volunteer. She says, "I was just hanging on the might."

They find zombies reaching out from a pile of rubble. Glenn looks at their faces but none of them is Maggie, Sasha or Bob. Tara says the blood is still wet which means the collapse happened today. Glenn starts stabbing the zombies in the head. Tara starts stomping on their heads. When they climb over they find more zombies on the other side. Too many for just the two of them. The zombies start walking towards them. Glenn looks to see of any of them are Maggie but none are, so that means Maggie made it through. Tara tells him they have to find another way. They don't have anymore ammo.

Abraham and gang are on the road where they find some cars. One of them has a zombie in it. He kills it and starts the car.  A note on the windshield reads "Let Momma Be."  Eugene and Rosita argue about who will be the navigator. Rosita gives in and tells him they are going north.

Abraham is asleep in the back of the car. Rosita accuses Eugene of being lost since they have taken three left turns.  He suddenly tells her to stop the van. They are on the railroad tracks.  They are on the tracks near where Tara and Glenn should have come out.  He says he is not leaving them behind.  "After I save the world I still need to live with myself."  Abraham wakes up and starts arguing with Rosita. Eugene tells them to stop they all turn to look.

Glenn props up the light at one end of the debris to distract the zombies as he and Tara climb over on the other side. Tara stumbles and her foot gets stuck when some debris falls on it. Glenn can't free her foot. Tara tells Glenn to go and find Maggie.  He can't help her and the zombies will get both of them. He says he is not leaving and she yells at him to go. Glenn says no and starts shooting the zombies. When he runs out of bullets he tells them to come on.  A car pulls up and a bunch of people beginning shooting the zombies dead. Glenn turns to the group and sees one of them is Maggie. They hug and she cries. They kiss. She simply says hi. I assume that Maggie was leaving another note and that is what Eugene and the others saw.

Tara walks up and Glen introduces them. Glenn says he met Tara on the road and couldn't have made it without her.  Maggie hugs her and thanks her. He tells Maggie that when Tara found out what he was doing she had to help because she is that kind of person. Sasha tells Maggie that Eugene says he knows what caused the outbreak. Glenn asks if she wants to go with them. Tara says she is going to DC. Eugene says Abraham is wrong. They are only a days walk from Terminus and they won't make it very far in their car. Sasha says she will go with them after they see Terminus. She wants to see if Tyreese is there. Bob says he will do the same.  Abraham says he will listen to Eugene. Maggie says they were swarmed by the zombie in the tunnel and she was almost out of bullets so she shot the roof and hoped for the best. As Glenn is fixing the poncho (Daryl's poncho) the picture he took of Maggie sleeping falls out.  Maggie goes to set it on fire. He won't let her burn the only picture he has of her.  She says he won't need another picture of her ever again.  He sets the picture on fire.

The group arrives at Terminus.  They open up the gates and enter.  There is a garden with food growing. They keep their weapons at the ready.  No one in sight.  They open up another gate with a sign that says they need to lower their weapons.  More gardens can be seen as well as buckets for doing laundry.  A woman stands at a grill cooking. She walks up to them and says "Hi, I’m Mary. Look’s like you've been on the road awhile. Let’s get you settled, and we'll make you a plate. Welcome to Terminus."

Daryl
Men sleeping in the woods. A zombie approaches. It runs into barbed wire set up around their campsite. It is Daryl's new group. One of them kills the zombie. One of the men says that Daryl ran off. Another points out that Daryl left all of his things. Daryl is in the woods hunting a rabbit. Another one of the men from the group comes up behind and shoots an arrow a second before Daryl shoots his. The man, Len, claims it is his rabbit. Daryl says it is his. Len says Beth has got Daryl all messed up.  He refers to Beth as a piece of tail. And then asks if she was a little one. The little ones don't last long. Daryl grabs his knife but is interrupted by Joe.  Joe says that since the other guy claimed the rabbit it belongs to him. His rule is the rule of claim. All you have to do is claim. Daryl says he won't claim anything. Joe takes the rabbit and cuts it in half.  He tells Daryl all he has to do is claim.

Joe wants to know Daryl's plan. Daryl is looking for the right place. Some of the group is not so friendly. Joe insists he needs a group.  People don't need to be friendly. They just have to follow the rules. You claim. You don't lie and you don't steal.  Daryl asks what happens if you break the rules. You get beaten. Daryl says, "There is no us". Joe asks if he is leaving. Daryl doesn't leave. Joe says than he is an us. He compares Daryl to an outdoor cat that thinks it is an indoor cat.

The group enters an abandoned building on the side of the tracks.  It has several cars in it.  The men start claiming cars.  Daryl says nothing.  All the cars get claimed.  He lies down on the floor. Len accuses Daryl of stealing the other half of the rabbit.  Daryl says he didn't take it.  Joe grabs his bag and dumps everything out. The other half of the rabbit falls out.  Daryl accuses Len of putting it there.  Len says that Daryl lied and stole and that is breaking the rules.  Joe says if Len put the rabbit there it would disappoint him.  Joe punches Len and tells the other to beat him.  Joe saw Len plant the rabbit.  Joe says that Daryl told the truth and followed the rules while the Len didn't. Daryl understands the rules while Len doesn't.

The next morning Daryl wakes up and sees blood on the floor where they beat Len. When they go outside he sees Len lying dead with an arrow through his head. He goes to cover him up but changes his mind. As they walk through a field Joe offers Daryl a flask. Joe says the zombiepocalypse is when things fell together for him not apart. They find a sign for Terminus. One of the men says they are getting closer. Joe says it won't be a sanctuary.  They won't welcome men like them with open arms. Joe tells him of their encounter with Rick and that they have been following him down the tracks towards Terminus. One of the men, Tony, saw Rick's face. Daryl sees some food on the side of the tracks and claims it. They walk past the candy wrapper Carl left on the tracks.

Rick, Carl, and Michonne
Rick is walking down the tracks talking about the weather when he turns and sees that Michonne and Carl are balancing on the tracks. She tries to get Carl to fall of bu she falls off herself. She loses their bet and pays up with candy bars. Carl takes a candy bar that appears to be her favorite. He offers her half. They always share.

Final Thoughts
- Glenn showed what a good guy he is by not mentioning exactly how he met Tara.  I also thinks he has forgiven her.  He also shows his moral code and loyalty towards Tara by staying with her when she is trapped in the tunnel.
- Steven Yeun mentioned on the Tallking Dead that Glenn grabbed several items belonging to his family before he left the prison.  He grabbed Rick's lighter, Daryl's poncho, and the picture of Maggie.
- It's really disconcerting how vengeful Joe and his group are that they would track Rick to exact revenge.  Especially since they broke into the house Rick was living in and had plans to rape Michonne.
- I don't believe Terminus is a sanctuary.  I get the feeling it will be worse than Woodbury.  I also found it odd that the group only encountered one person on arrival.
- I don't like how Daryl seems to be regressing to his old ways.  I felt like the minute he claimed that plant on the side of the road he was accepting his role in the new group.  I hope he finds his family soon.
- How will the situation with Rick and Joe work out?  If they meet at Terminus it could be easily defused but if they meet before Rick is in real danger.

The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 14: The Grove

Kettle boils on a range while music plays.  Out the window can be seen a little girl playing with a zombie. What the what?! Nighttime on the tracks.  Carol and Lizzie are awake.  Carol tells Lizzie to sleep.  Lizzie says if there is trouble she can help with Judith.  She asks Carol if there will be kids in Terminus.  She says she saved Tyreese by shooting two people.  Carol says she had to and saved Tyreese.  Lizzie says maybe kids in Terminus will be there because they kept their parents safe.  Lizzie asks Carol if she had kids.  Carol says Sophia was sweet and didn't have a mean bone in her body.  Lizzie asks if that is why her daughter died.  Carol says she misses Sophia everyday.  Lizzie asks if she will miss her.  Carol says she won't have to miss her and then tells her to go to sleep with Tyreese and Mika.  Tyreese mumbles in his nightmare.  He wakes up and looks at Carol.

The next morning Lizzie finds resin in a tree that they use to cover Tyreese's cut.  He asks Carol how long she thinks it will be until they get to Terminus.  He says Lizzie is tough.  Carol says Lizzie is tough with people.  She misunderstands the walkers. Carol says Mika is worse because she doesn't have a mean bone in her body (therefore she will die like Sophia).  Mika asks Carol to tell them the end of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.  At first Mika says she is like Huck Finn but Lizzie says she is more like Tom.  Mika agrees.  She mentions that Lizzie isn't afraid of dead rabbits!  Did she kill the rats at the prison?

Carol and Tyreese smell smoke.  Carol takes Mika with her to get water.  Tyreese and Lizzie play I spy. Tyreese sees someone walking down the tracks.  It looks like a zombie.  He gives Judith to Lizzie and grabs his hammer.  He walks down the tracks and the zombie collapses.  He goes to bash its head in.   Lizzie stops him.  She says sometimes they don't have to kill them.  Carol brought Mika with her to talk to her about toughening up.  Mika says that she can run. Carol says her daughter ran and it wasn't enough.  Mika says she is not messed up like Lizzie.  She knows what walkers are but can't kill people.  She couldn't pull the trigger at the prison.  She doesn't even wish she could kill someone trying to kill her.  She feels sorry for them because that means those people changed.  They weren't like that before.  They stumble upon a clearing with houses ahead.  She mentions her mom used to say everything turns out the way it's supposed to.

Tyreese and Lizzie join Mika and Carol.  Carol says they should stay there for a while.  There are pecans around and there are fences.  Lizzie points out a giant billow of smoke.  They walk up to a house and knock. Tyreese and Carol are going to clear the house.  The girls are not to come in until they adults come out to get them.  Lizzie holds Judith and stares at some graves in the yard.  Lizzie says they are going to find a zombie in the house.  Mika tells her zombies are not people.  A zombie comes out and makes its way toward them. Mika fires several shots before she kills it.  Carol tells her she saved them.  She asks Lizzie why she is crying and she replies she doesn't want to say (read: she is sad they killed the zombie).  Mika apologizes for yelling at her.  She tells her to look at the flowers in the yard and count to three.  Later in the night Lizzie and Carol crack nuts.  Mika comes down with a doll that she found.  Tyreese announces they have plenty of water and now they just need to find a deer.  He is not used to being in a living room in a house.  Mika tells him to relax.  He sits in an arm chair and grabs a magazine to read.  Mika says they should live there.  Carol smiles.

The next morning Carol fills the tea kettle that we saw at the beginning of the episode and sets it to boil.  She sees Lizzie playing with a zombie outside. Carol runs outside and kills the zombie.  Lizzie screams at her no. Lizzie tells her the zombie wanted to be friends.  She yells at Carol for killing her (the zombie).  She yells at Carol that Carol doesn't understand. "She was my friend and you killed her!"  She slumps to the ground crying.  If you didn't already think that Lizzie was crazy this should dispel all doubts.

Mika and Carol are walking towards the woods. Mika is carrying a rifle.   Mika says that if the smoke were white the fire wouldn't be burning anymore. She knows this because she was good at science. Carol tells her she is stronger than Lizzie and understands that zombie are zombies.  She has Mika point the rifle at a deer.  She can't kill it. Carol and Tyreese are by the well pump.  He says maybe they don't need to go to Terminus. Mika was right.  They should stay and live there.  He tells Carol he trusts her.  Mika calls for Lizzie.  Lizzie is out by the tracks.  She is feeding the zombie with a mouse.  I think we now officially know that she was the zombie feeder and rat vivisector.  She tells the zombie she will get it more mice. Mika finds her and tells her, "When we were giving them names, we were just pretending things weren't bad. Things are bad." Zombies are bad and they can't pretend anymore.  Lizzie says she is not pretending.  She can hear them. They want her to change and feel like them.  She reaches her hand out to it. Burnt zombies come out of the woods.  The girls run back to the house with the zombies following them. Mika trips and a zombie grabs her by the leg. Carol and Tyreese arrive and start shooting the zombies. Eventually Lizzie and Mika join in and start shooting the zombies. They get them all.  Carol hugs Lizzie and tells her, "You did it."

Later that night Lizzie sits at the table. She says she had to help.  She says she knows what she has to do now. Carol says that the cost of surviving is that it changes you.  Mika says she doesn't want to be mean. Lizzie tells her she has to be mean sometimes. Carol teaches the girls how to roast pecans in the oven. The next morning Carol mentions to Tyreese that the girls like it there.  If he doesn't want to go to Terminus they can stay.  He says they may go someday.  But he says he is not ready to be around other people yet. He tells her he dreams about Karen.  He sees her every night and forgets she is dead.  Carol looks uncomfortable and guilty as he talks about his dreams.  On bad nights he sees someone kill Karen, some stranger.  He says the living are haunted by the dead.  "The whole world is haunted now." Carol looks like she is going to confess but then says that maybe the dead aren't haunting them but teaching them so they can live with what they have to do. He tells her to never be ashamed of who she is.  She did right by those girls and everyone. He hugs her. They walk through the woods looking for a deer.  She mentions that her husband used to hunt and tell the same stupid joke every year. "What's the difference between beer nuts and deer nuts? Beer nuts cost around $1.79 but deer nuts are just under a buck."

Lizzie is outside with Judith holding a bloody knife.  She has killed Mika!!!  She says, "Don't worry she'll come back I didn't kill her brain." Carol goes to grab the knife and Lizzie pulls a gun on her.  She says they have to wait and then they will understand.  Carol says they will wait as long as Lizzie gives her the gun. Lizzie gives her the gun. She tells Lizzie to go with Tyreese and take Judith back to the house.  Lizzie says she was about to do the same thing to Judith.  Carol calmly tells her that Judith can't walk yet.  They will go back to the house and eat lunch and Carol will stay with Mika and tie her up with her shoe laces so she won't wander off.  Carol cries once they leave.  She grabs her knife and probably goes to finish Mika off. Lizzie is insane. She killed Mika and would have killed Judith if she hadn't been interrupted.

Carol and Tyreese are inside the kitchen talking.  He tells her he took food to Lizzie and made sure she didn't have any knives.  He found a box full of mice and asked if she had been feeding the walkers ate the prison. She said yes.  She also said she was the one that vivisected the rabbit.  She said she was just having fun. He thinks maybe she killed Karen and David but Carol says that she would have let them turn.  Carol says she could go with Lizzie somewhere.  She says they can't help her.  This is how she is and it was already there. Tyreese says he and Judith should go.  Carol says Lizzie can't be around other people.  They both cry.

Lizzie and Carol walk through the fields. Carol says they should pick some wildflowers for Mika. Carol starts to cry. Lizzie asks if Carol is mad at her.  She apologizes for pointing the gun at her.  She says Carol is mad at her.  Carol says she loves her.  Everything works out the way it's supposed to. Lizzie keeps apologizing, but still doesn't realize why Carol is upset. Carol tells her to look at the flowers (what Mika told her earlier in the episode). Carol pulls out her gun and points it at Lizzie and fires. Tyreese looks on from the window. Carol walks shaking and crying towards the house.  She sees a deer but keeps on walking.

They dig graves for the girls right by the graves that already existed.  That night Tyreese and Carol sit at the table.  A puzzles spread out on the table in front of them. She hands the gun to Tyreese and tells him she killed Karen and David to stop the spread of the disease.  He says nothing just cries.  She tells him to do what he has to do.  He asked if Karen knew what was happening.  Was she scared?  No. Was it quick? Yes. He grabs the gun.  Carol tells him to do what he has to do. He lets go of the gun. He looks at Carol and says, "I forgive you.  I'm never going to forget. It happened. You did it. You feel it. I know you do. It is a part of you now. Me too. But I forgive you." She says thank you. He says they don't need to stay. They can't stay. The next morning, the house is abandoned. Everything left behind. Voice over: "I'm not afraid to kill.  I'm just afraid." says Lizzie. "You fight it.  You don't give up and then one day you just change. We all change." says Carol. Tyreese and Carol walk away from the house and head back onto the tracks towards Terminus.

RIP Mika.  You were too good for this world.
RIP Lizzie.  May you find the peace and sanity you lost in this world.
So many thoughts
- The dichotomy between these two sisters is that Mika can't kill the living and Lizzie can't kill the dead.
- Both this episode and last week's episode talked a lot about good people in the zombiepocalypse. Beth mentioned how there must still be good people around.  She evoked faith and hope.  This week the good people, those without a mean bone in their bodies, were seen as weak and sentenced to an early death in the zombiepocalypse.  Sophia and Mika were compared in this episode but you can also add Dale and Hershel to this group.  Good people don't last very long because they don't want to kill or hurt anyone.  They can't do what needs to be done to survive so they don't.
- This episode highlights the different ways the youth of the zombiepocalypse have reacted to a change in their world.  Mika kept her old self and died.  Lizzie lost her mind becoming too hard and trying too hard to understand and sympathize with the zombies.  Carl has adapted the best.  He knows what needs to be done to survive but still has his bratty teenage moments.  He has found a way to balance his old life with his new life.  That balance is the key to surviving and still keeping your humanity.
- The puzzle on the table at the last scene is of Sophia. Melissa McBride mentioned this fact on The Talking Dead and an interview with Entertainment Weekly.  It was just another way of having Sophia in this episode.
- For Carol this episode was not just about Mika and Lizzie but also about Sophia.  Mika is similar in temperament to Sophia.  In essence, she loses Sophia all over again.  First, in the death of Mika and then in shooting Lizzie in the head except this time she shoots her daughter and not Rick.
- I think Tyreese was able to forgive Carol for killing Karen only after the deaths of Mika and Lizzie.  I don't think he would have been as forgiving if he had found out at the prison.  He literally needed to lose everyone and everything to get to that place of forgiveness.
- It's been speculated that the smoke seen in this episode is from the moonshine shack that Beth and Daryl set alight a couple of episodes back.

The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 13: Alone

Maggie, Bob, and Sasha
Bob walking slowly through the woods. He is eating something from a can. Now we see him standing against a tree with zombies walking past him from behind. He appears to be alone. No sign of Maggie or Sasha.  He builds himself a shelter and drinks what looks like cough medicine.  Now we see him walking down a road towards a truck. He lies atop of the truck as a zombie heard walks past it.  As he walks down the road a car engine can be heard. We see Daryl on his bike and Glenn in a car.  It looks like a flashback to when he was found by our gang. They ask if he is alone.  He tells them he was with two groups.  They ask if anyone made it and he says no. They ask his name and then Rick's questions to see if he will be okay to join the group.  He killed one human because she asked him to.  They ask if he has any question for them and he says no.  It doesn't matter who they are, he will go with them.

Fog surrounds Bob, Maggie, and Sasha. Zombies can be heard all around them but they can't be seen through the fog.  They stand back to back with weapons at the ready.  Zombies approach them and they fight them off one by one.  Bob is overrun and Sasha shoots a zombie.  Maggie gets knocked to the ground by a zombie and Sasha shoots it.  A zombie bit but didn't break through the bandage (at least according to Bob).  He flirts with Sasha.  Sasha says they only have three  bullets. Maggie pulls out her compass and realizes it is broken.  Bob tells them they will be fine if they just follow the sun.

Maggie, Bob, and Sasha find the railroad tracks and a sign for Terminus.  Bob mentions the radio message that mentioned Terminus.  Maggie says they should go.  She says if Glenn saw this sign he would follow it. Sasha doesn't want to go.  She says it sounds too good to be true.  Bob asks Sasha what she wants to do, but they will not split up.  They head down the tracks towards Terminus.

Bob and Sasha are sitting in a camp site they made.  Bob asks her if she thinks they should stop. She says what happened this morning as a warning.  "Odds are Glenn is dead and we will be too." She says the tracks leads through towns and they need to find a house to set up camp in.  They need to convince Maggie to do that too.

Sasha wakes up from a nap.  Bob is there but no Maggie.  Bob is staring at a note written in the dirt from Maggie that says "Don't risk your lives for me.  Good luck."  Bob says if they hurry up they can catch up with her.  They start to pack up.  Maggie walks down the tracks and finds another sign for terminus.  She pulls out her knife and it looks like she might try to carve a note when a zombie comes up behind her and she stabs it and guts it.

Bob and Sasha walk down the tracks. Sasha brings up the fact that he hasn't stopped smiling since they left the prison.  He says he is smiling since he is not alone.  He broke the streak.  Both groups he was with before all died.  They find the zombie Maggie killed. She used the zombie's blood to write a note for Glenn telling him to go to Terminus.

Nighttime.  Sasha sits awake listening to zombies.  Bob gets up and tells her he is awake.  He asks if she can see the zombie. She says no.  It's been making noise for an hour.  He tells her that when he was alone he never got much sleep.  She tells him that he needs to sleep. She asks "What the hell are we doing out here?"  He asks her why she thinks Tyreese is dead.  Or is she afraid to find out if he is dead. Tyreese would have chosen to go to Terminus.

Bob and Sasha continue down the tracks. They see another sign Maggie has left for Glenn.  They plan on catching up with her. Bob and Sasha find some buildings.  Sasha points to a building.  That is where she wants to stop and set up a new life.  Bob tells her he is not stopping.  Maggie is alone and he won't leave her alone.  When he got to the prison he was counting down to the day he would be alone again.  He tells her she doesn't need to be afraid.  She says she is not afraid.  He kisses her. She says he doesn't have to be alone again.  He says he won't be and continues down the tracks alone. Sasha walks toward the brick building she spotted.  She walks in and heads upstairs.  It is empty. She puts down her things and starts to cry.  She composes herself and looks out one of the windows.  She pulls out the compass.  She notices an ice cream truck with a bunch of bodies in front of if.  One gets up.  It is Maggie (she's alive).  Sasha goes to help Maggie as zombies start to come out from behind the truck and the other buildings.  Sasha starts killing zombie with her waking stick.  Maggie uses a sign to kill zombies.  They stand back to back and kill zombies one at a time. Maggie asks where Bob is.  She was looking for another walker and found more than she wanted. She heard what Sasha said about being in a town and  that the odds are Glenn is dead and they should stop.  Maggie tells her she is wrong.  Sasha asks why Maggie is here.  She was waiting for them.  She is not giving up but she needs her help.  She can't do it by herself.  Even if she catches up with bob they can't do it alone.  She can now as Sasha to risk her life.  Because it is not just for Glenn. She knows Sasha is afraid but they can get there.  Sasha admits that she's afraid.  But she says they should go get Bob.

Bob walks down the tracks by himself. Someone calls his name.  He turns around and sees Maggie and Sasha walking towards him.  He smiles as they approach.  Maggie hugs him.  Then he hugs Sasha. They walk down the tracks together towards Terminus.  We see another sign for Terminus.  Glenn stands in front of it.

Daryl and Beth
Daryl is teaching Beth how to track and shoot the crossbow.  She sees that the tracks on the ground belong to a walker.  They follow it to a clearing.  It is eating something.  She creeps up behind it and steps on a trap. She shoots it with the crossbow but it doesn't stop.  Daryl rushes up and hits it in the head.

Daryl and Beth find a cemetery.  Beth is limping from her injury.  Daryl offers to carry her piggy back style. They make their way to the funeral home at the other end of the cemetery.  Beth stops to look at a grave stone.  Daryl picks some flowers and puts them on the grave that reads "Beloved Father." They take a moment to mourn Hershel.  Beth and Daryl hold hands.

Beth notes how clean the funeral home is when they enter. Daryl says someone has been tending to it and they might still be around.  They find a dead body in a casket with makeup on. Down in the basement they find another dead body on a gurney.  Beth says whoever did this cared.  They remembered the dead were people before everything happened.  She asks Daryl "Don't you think this is beautiful?"  He doesn't reply.  He bends down to bandage her ankle.  Beth and Daryl scavenge the kitchen cupboards for food.  They find one cupboard with food. Daryl notices that this is someone's stash since there is not dust on it.  He says they should take some food but leave the rest.  She says she new there were still good people.  Daryl sets up zombie detectors around the building. Beth plays the piano and sings while Daryl stands at the doorway looking in.  He lies down in an empty coffin saying it is the comfiest bed he's had in years.  He tells her to keep playing and singing. He looks on. A brief moment of respite.

Daryl carries Beth into the kitchen for breakfast. They hear a noise outside. Daryl grabs the crossbow and opens the door.  It it a little dog.  He goes to pet it and it runs away.  Beth writes a thank you note for the person who's food they ate.  He says maybe they should stick around for awhile.  He says maybe they will be alright.  She asks what changed his mind.  He says "You know . .  I don't know."  She realizes she is the one that changed his mind.  They hear a noise and Daryl says he is going to give the dog one more chance.  He opens the door and zombies come in. Daryl tells her to get out as he is chased by zombies.  He runs down to the basement and uses the gurney to keep them at bay as he stabs them.  There are too many.  He uses another gurney to hold them back and makes his way outside.  He runs through the cemetery towards the woods.  He find Beth's bag on the floor and sees a car drive off.  He runs after it calling Beth's name.  It appears she has been kidnapped by unknown assailants.  Daryl runs down the road.  He is slowing down trying to catch his breath.  He comes to a crossroad.  Now he must decide which way to go.  A railroad track runs through it.  He collapses on the floor.

Daryl sits in the middle of the road. Someone walks up to him.  It is the group that was in the house Rick was living in.  Daryl hits one of the men and another calls dibs on Daryl's jacket.  The leader says he respects Daryl because his is a bowman and that demands respect.  He has been looking for a weapon like that.  The man warns him that if he kills him the others will kill Daryl.  "Why hurt yourself when you can kill other people?"  He introduces himself as Joe.  Daryl introduces himself.

Final Thoughts
- Who took Beth and why?  I don't see anything good coming from her kidnapping.
- Unfortunately, Joe and his group of henchmen are back.  I saw that coming.  Let's hope Daryl can ditch them soon and find Terminus so he can meet up with his beloved friends.
- Will Sasha hook up with Bob once she finds Tyreese?  She didn't respond to his kiss but she didn't push him away either.  Right now she seems to scared to let someone in.  She thinks Tyreese is dead and they don't have a safe place to live.  Maybe when she attains those things she will be more open to Bob's advances.  But I still find Bob creepy and don't trust him.

The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 12: Still

Abandoned car on the side of the road at night.  Beth looks inside the car and tries to start it.  Zombies can be heard coming towards them from the woods.  They get in the trunk of the car and Daryl ties it shut with a rag.  Zombies can be heard surrounding the car.  Lightning flashes as a storm begins.  Daryl holds his crossbow at the ready and Beth holds her knife as the zombies scream.  Daylight now seeps through the open crap of the trunk.  They seem to have stayed awake all night.  Beth opens the trunk and gets out.  No zombies in site.  They scavenge the car for supplies and walk down the deserted road.

Daryl stalks a squirrel in the woods but misses and his arrow breaks.  Beth digs a fire pit at their campsite. She uses the car's side mirror to start a fire.  She uses the hubcaps from the car to make a zombie alarm. Daryl kills a rattlesnake for food.  We now see Daryl and Beth devouring the snake.  She tells Daryl she needs a drink.  He throws her a bottle of water.  But she says she means alcohol.  She's never had a drink because her dad was an alcoholic but since he isn't around anymore she thinks it would be a good idea to go find some.  Daryl ignores her and keeps eating his snake.  She goes off on her own and calls Daryl a jerk. Several zombies come walking through the woods headed in her direction.  She throws a rock away from her to get them to go in a different direction but one comes towards her.  At the last minute it turns follows the others.  Daryl sneaks up behind her.  She gets mad at him for bringing her back to the camp so she flips him off.  She wants to find the others.  She tells him she can take care of herself and she is going to find a drink.  Daryl sadly looks back at their camp.

They walk out of the woods onto a golf course. They make their way to the country club.  Thunder can be heard.  Zombies walk towards them from the golf course.  The front door is locked but the back door is open.  Bodies lie dead on the floor of the room they enter.  It looked like people camped there for a while. Several bodies are hanging from the ceiling.  According to "The Talking Dead" there was a revolt among the survivors and they hanged those individuals.  The bodies on the floor don't move.  Beth looks around the table and grabs a spoon that says Washington DC (is this a hint that the show will move to DC?).  Daryl fills a bag with money and jewelry and Beth asks why he is keeping that stuff.  Zombies start banging on the door so they head deeper into the building.  They walk into the kitchen.  Beth finds a bottle of wine in a closet and makes a little too much noise reaching up to get it.  Daryl continues to look for supplies.  A zombie comes up from behind and grabs Beth.  She hits it over the head with the bottle and tries to stab it with the broken glass. She eventually stabs it with a knife.  She says to Daryl thanks for the help.  He points out that she said she could take care of herself.  They find another room with bodies. Written on the wall is "Welcome to the Dogtrot."

They make their way to what looks like the gift shop. Daryl stuffs things into his pockets.  Beth grabs some new clothes.  Half of a woman's body has been displayed like a mannequin with a sign "Rich Bitch" on it.  Beth wants to take her down.  Daryl says it doesn't matter but Beth says it does.  He covers the body with a sheet.  A clock in the hall chimes the hour loudly and attracts several zombies.  Daryl kills zombie after zombies as Beth stares.  Daryl beats a zombie with a golf club getting blood all over Beth's new clothes.   They make it to the bar.  She tells Daryl she knows it is stupid to go through all this just for a drink but she doesn't care.  All she wanted to do was sit and cry but can't, so she needs to do this.  Daryl breaks the glass of a frame and pulls the paper out.  She found a bottle of peach schnapps and asks if it is good.  Daryl simply says no. Daryl plays darts with the pictures of former presidents of the club.  Beth stares at the bottle and cries.  Daryl takes the bottle and throws it on the ground.  He tells her her first drink won't be peach schnapps.

Beth guesses that Daryl used to be a motorcycle mechanic.  She asks if her boyfriend had ever guessed that. She says it's what people do to feel normal.  They come to a building that Daryl says he found with Michonne.  Daryl grabs some bottles from a shed and tells her it is moonshine.  He pours her a glass and tells her that is a real first drink.  She hesitates because Hershel told her bad moonshine could make her go blind. Daryl responds that there is nothing more to see out there.  She doesn't like it but pours a second round for Daryl.  He says no because someone has to stay sober.  He says he knew what this place was because it was like his dad's place.  He starts explaining what everything in the room is.  A zombie walks up the the house but since it is alone they decide to leave it be.  She hands him a jar of moonshine and says they might as well make the most of it if they are going to be trapped there.  Daryl takes it, sits, in a chair and says, "Home, sweet, home."

Beth explains the rules to the game "I never."  He says he never needed a game to get drunk before. Daryl says he's never been out of Georgia.  He's never been on vacation.  He learned to camp to hunt.  Beth says she has never been to jail (living in the prison being the exception).  He asks if that is what she thinks of him.  He tells her to drink up because he's never been to prison.  She thinks he used to be a prison guard.  He gets mad and goes to take a piss.  He says he never got a present form Santa Claus, he's never relied on anyone, and he never tried to cut his wrists to get attention.  He tells her he is going to teach her how to shoot a crossbow.  He grabs her and takes her outside.  He shoots the zombie and pins it to a tree.  Daryl grabs her and tries to get her to shoot the crossbow at the zombie.  Beth gets out of his grip and stabs the zombie in the head.  She yells at Daryl for not caring about what happened and that he looks at her like just another dead girl.  She may not be like Michonne or Maggie but she survived.  She remembers how he was when Sophia came out of the barn.  He yells that everyone is dead and they are never going to see them again.  He thinks it's his fault the Governor attacked them because he stopped looking for him.  Maybe he could have done something for Hershel.  She hugs him from behind and he cries.

Nighttime.  Beth gets why her dad stopped drinking. Daryl tells a story of when he was young when he, Merle, and another guy were all drunk and Merle was high.  He hit the other guy and the guy pulls a gun on him and Merle pulls his gun and everyone is yelling all over a cartoon show.  The other guy punched Daryl in the stomach and he puked and the other two laughed and forgot about the fight.  “You wanna know where I was before all this? I was just drifting around with Merle. Doing whatever he said we’d be doing that day. Nobody. Nothing. Some redneck asshole with an even bigger asshole for a brother.” Daryl confesses. She says that he must miss Merle.  She misses Maggie and her big brother.  She misses her dad.  She hoped he would live the rest of his life in peace, Maggie and Glenn would have a baby, and they would have birthdays, and holidays, and summer picnics.  It would be okay.  Hershel would die surrounded by people he loved.  Daryl says that's how it was supposed to be.  She wishes she could just change.  She says she didn't change enough, not like Daryl.  Daryl says he was born into this kind of crappy world.  She says he escaped his old life.  She says she will be gone some day and  he will be the last man standing.  "You are going to miss me so bad when I'm gone Daryl Dixon."  You have to save who you are not what you were.  Daryl says they should go inside and Beth says they should burn it down.  He says they are going to need more booze.  They go inside and splash the building with the rest of the moonshine.  He gives her the honors of  lighting the match.  They light some of the money he grabbed and throw it inside.  They walk into the woods as the building burns.  Beth flips the building off and Daryl does so too.  Zombies come from the woods towards the fire.  They walk away and Daryl smiles.

Final Thoughts
- I'm glad be finally got to know Beth.  I wish they would have written an episode for her like this last season.  She finally has a personality and is more than just the girl who takes care of the baby and on occasion sings a song.
- Beth's new role is now of survivor and support system for Daryl.  While Daryl can survive in the woods on his own but he needs an emotional support system.
- Daryl's back story is as sad and crappy as I expected.
- Both Daryl and Beth have come into their own since the zombiepocalypse.  They've achieved things that they probably would never have achieved if the world hadn't been turned upside down.
- Where will they end up?  Will they find Terminus?  They left the tracks and we were not shown that they found any sign on the tracks leading to Terminus.  Will they go to Washington, DC and find their way to Glenn?  I don't think it was a coincidence that they zoomed in on the spoon Beth grabbed.  In the comic book the group ends up in DC.  Will we now have two groups going to two different locations?
