The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 11 "The Distance"

The fight's over. You gotta let it go.

Everyone is sitting around the barn relaxing. Maggie walks in with Aaron. Daryl walks up armed and searches Aaron for weapons even though Maggie says she already took his weapons. Aaron goes to shake hands with Rick but stops when he sees everyone ready to take him down. Maggie gives Rick the weapon Aaron had with him. Sasha tells them that Aaron has a camp nearby and wants them to audition for membership. He tries to make a joke about auditions and dance troupes but our gang is having none of it. He says it's a community not a camp. His job is to convince them to come back with him; he doesn't decide who gets in. He understands their hesitancy and tells Sasha to give his bag to Rick and pull out an envelope that has photos. Daryl interrupts him and says no one cares. We see a photo of a reinforced wall. He talks about the importance of security. People are the next most important factor. Rick's group can make them stronger. Rick walks up to Aaron and punches him.

Michonne tells Rick that the look she gave him was not a "attack the guy" look but rather a "he seems like a nice guy" look. Rick wants Aaron tied up and his bag searched. He tells the group to look out to see if they see anyone. Maggie says that he didn't hurt her or Sasha when he had the chance and they didn't see anyone else out there. Carl found a flare gun in the bag. Aaron understands they are being cautious. Rick says that he has a flair gun to signal his people so he wants to know how many are out there. Aaron asks if it matters. He says that no matter what he says Rick won't believe him. He says he is the one that left the water for them in the road. Daryl wants to know how long they have been watching them. Aaron says long enough to see they didn't turn on each other or were afraid of the zombies following them. They are survivors and people. People are the most important resource in the world. The group looks at Rick. Rick asks how many others are out there. Aaron says there is only one other person out there with him. He offers to drive them to the community to show them. Aaron says he and his friend drove out in separate cars and parked them as close as they could before the storm blocked them. He says if he wanted to ambush them he would have done it by lighting the barn on fire. Michonne wants to check it out. She is not sure that Aaron is lying. Maggie isn't either. Rick says her way is dangerous and his isn't. Michonne says that passing up a place where they can live, where Judith can live, is dangerous. They need to see this through. They can handle themselves. Glenn offers to go with them. He asks Abraham if he'll go. Abraham says yes, so does Rosita. Rick gives Glenn his gun. If they don't come back in 60 minutes he will come looking for them. The rest of the group goes to secure the area and Rick is left alone with Aaron and Judith. Aaron tells Rick he used to work for an NGO that delivered food and medicine to the Niger River delta. Bad people pointed guns at him. Rick and his group are not bad people. Rick responds, "Just because we are good people doesn't mean we won't kill you." This is very true. If the others don't come back in an hour he will put a knife through the base of Aaron's skull.

Michonne and the others make their way down the road. Glenn tells them to have their weapons ready and if anybody comes towards them they should fire at them. Michonne questions that order. What if the person has nothing to do with this? Glenn says, "If they are like us we should be afraid of them." Another valid point. While Rick's group may be good they are dangerous and have killed many people before. He wonders why Aaron would want them in his group after watching them and seeing everything they have done. Michonne's reply says it all, "People like us saved a priest. Saved a girl her rolled up to the prison with the Governor. Saved a crazy lady with a sword." Glenn is still unsure. We see a man hidden behind a tractor looking at them.

Judith cries. Aaron tells Rick there is a jar of applesauce in his bag. He isn't telling him this to trick Rick but to stop Judith from crying so she doesn't attract walkers because he knows he will be left to die. Rick grabs the applesauce and wants Aaron to eat some first. Aaron says he doesn't like applesauce. Rick insists and Aaron relents. Then Rick tries some and gives some to Judith. Aaron tells Rick in their community they can find a place for Rick and his people where no matter how much Judith cries no walkers will harm her. Rick tells him he has 43 minutes.

Glenn and his group find the cars. An RV and a sedan. Michonne points out that Aaron was telling the truth. They hear someone in the bushes and a couple zombies stumble out. Rosita and Abraham kill them. They check out the RV. Abraham finds cans of AMC approved spaghettios. Abraham asks Rosita if she thought he was going to hurt her back when he had his breakdown after Eugene told everyone he lied. She says no. That's not him.

The group has returned with the food they found in the cars. Rick tells Aaron that the food is now theirs. Rick still isn't sure about going to the camp. Michonne says they need this so they are all going. She tells the others to speak up. Daryl says the barn smells like horse poo. Rick says they are going. He asks Aaron where the camp is but Aaron says he drives people back but won't tell them where it is. Michonne says he won't be driving he wants to get home he needs to tell them where it is. Rick wants to go up a different road than the one Aaron mentioned. They will go at sundown. Sasha doesn't think that is safe. Rick wants to sneak up at night in case they are bad people. Aaron insists no one will hurt them. He says Rick's plan puts them in danger. Rick says if Aaron tells him where the camp is located they will leave this moment, but Aaron refuses to say. Outside Michonne asks Rick if he was for real when he said they were going to Aaron's community. He asks her what she heard when she walked up to both the prison and Terminus. Her answer is nothing. Rick tells her he has to decide when he gets there if he will take his family inside. He is not sure anything could convince him to do so. But he's going to see.

That night Rick, Glenn, Michonne, and Aaron lead the caravan. The rest of the group follow in the RV. Rick finds a bunch of license plates. Aaron says he is collecting them to put up in his house. Michonne asks him if he has his own house. He tells Michonne to look for herself. She looks at the photographs and notices there are no people in them. She gets suspicious and asks him the three questions. Aaron has killed many walkers, two people because they tried to kill him. Rick finds a listening device in the car. Rick starts to freak out that the other guy might have one too and heard their plan. Glenn slams on the brake as he hits a walker on the road. The road is filled with walkers. Glenn just drives through them. He keeps going so the RV could get out. He continues hitting walkers until the windshield is covered in blood and they can no longer see. Rick gets out but doesn't see the RV. Glenn says they got away. The car won't start and zombies are approaching. Aaron keeps saying they have to get out of there. Michonne gets out of the car and pulls body part out of the hood. All of a sudden not too far ahead of them a flare is shot in the air. Aaron says it is over and he needs to leave now. Aaron makes a run for it and escapes into the woods. Michonne says their group will think they shot that flair and that is how they will find them. They follow Aaron in the woods with zombies in tow. They quickly get surrounded by zombies. Glenn gets separated from them. A zombie attacks him from behind but he kills it. Glenn finds Aaron fighting off a zombie. He begins to walk away but turns back and helps him. He sets Aaron free and begins to walk away but Aaron tells him they can make it together. But they can only make it together. Glenn said that and Aaron was listening.

Michonne and Rick call out for Glenn as zombies come towards them. Rick shoots a flare into a zombie. Just when it seems like they will be overrun by zombies the zombies are shot down by Glenn and Aaron. They find the road but don't see the RV. Rick tells Aaron if this is a trap his people will die tonight. They walk towards the direction of the flair. Someone whistles and another person whistles in return. Daryl comes out of the dark. They found the group. Aaron keeps calling out for an Eric. Eric is on the floor with a broken ankle. He tells Aaron he is okay and that he likes Maggie. Aaron and Eric kiss. Aaron was worried when he saw the flair go up. Eric says it is Aaron's fault because he loves Eric and love makes him do stupid things. Eric gives Aaron a license plate for his collection. Aaron admits he lost the car. They laugh. Rick comes in the room. Eric is all friendly and Rick just says his name. Aaron joins the others outside. He thanks them for saving Eric. He owes all of them and will pay them back when they get to their community in Alexandria. Rick agrees that they should leave the next morning. Rick wants to keep Aaron separated from the rest. Glenn talks Rick into letting them stay together. He can't give up everything else. It does matter. Rick relents.

The next morning Noah offers pain pills to Aaron. Aaron asks him about his leg injury. Noah says it happened during the zombiepocalypse. Aaron says they have a surgeon in Alexandria who might be able to fix Noah's leg. Eugene and some of the others play cards. Abraham drives and Rosita sits in the front. She points out the Washington Monument. A check engine light is on. Abraham says, "We can make it." They are now stuck on the side of the road. Glenn says they only need another battery and walks over to the side and finds a spare battery. Abraham asks how he knew where it was. Glenn doesn't reply but we all know. Thanks, Dale. We miss you. Michonne tells Rick, "The fight's over. You gotta let it go. I know it's hard. After its kept you warm and fed and alive. But the fight. It turns on you. You gotta let it go." Rick says that that is what Bob was trying to tell him. "What to risk. When it's safe. When to let someone in. The rules keep changing." It did for Michonne. Rick takes a moment before they get back on the road. He find an abandoned shack and pulls a blender from the debris. He hides his gun in it.  They pull up to the gates of Alexandria. No one is there. Children can be heard laughing and playing. When Rick hears this his expression changes. He relaxes. Michonne smiles at him and asks if he is ready. He says yes. He turns off the car, grabs Judith from the backseat, and joins the others outside. Carol tells Rick, "Even though you were wrong, you were still right."

Final Thoughts
-It is interesting to see the change in Michonne. Compare her in this episode to season 3 Michonne arriving at Woodbury. Everything seemed good and normal in Woodbury but she sensed that something was off. Now she is willing to take Aaron at his word just for a chance at a place to live. She now wants to live not just survive. All of this has happened because she is now part of a family. Being with Rick has changed her from a crazy lady with a sword to a woman with a family and hope. Lets hope it all turns out for the best.
-While everybody was treating Rick like he was crazy in this episode I completely understood his cautiousness and even paranoia. After his encounters with the Governor and the residents of Terminus it would not be easy to trust anyone touting that they have a sanctuary. He is the only one with children in the group.
-The Ricktatorship didn't last very long in this episode. Michonne was fighting it from the very beginning. She was even able to get Glenn to see her point of view. He started off agreeing with Rick, even ordering his group to shoot anyone they encountered on the road. But after seeing that Aaron had pretty much told them the truth about everything he decided to trust him and to stand down Rick.

The Walking Dead Season 5 episode 10 "Them"

We are the walking dead

Close up of Maggie's face.  She is crying.  She is sitting in the woods by herself.  A zombie approaches her but she doesn't move. It gets stuck on the tree behind and and she slowly gets up and stabs it in the head. She sits back down and cries.  Daryl is digging in the dirt. He pulls out a worm and eats it.  He is also by himself in the woods. Sasha walks through the woods following what looks like the trail of a dried stream. She sees dead frogs up ahead. Maggie and Daryl join her. She shakes her head no.  There is no water. They make their way to the road.  Maggie mentions it has been a day and a half and they haven't found water. Maggie asks how much longer do they have? Sasha says 60 miles.  Maggie wasn't talking about that. You can't survive very long in the Georgia heat without water.

The group walks down a deserted road. Some zombies follow them.  Rick and Daryl look back at the zombies and Rick says they will kill the zombies later, maybe when they get to high ground since they are not at their strongest. No use in wasting what little energy they have on killing zombies that are not an imminent threat. It's been three weeks since Atlanta. He tells Daryl he knows he lost something out there. Daryl responds that Judith is hungry. Rick says she is going to be okay. Everything is going to be okay. Daryl insists that they need water and food. Rick says it will rain sooner or later. Daryl heads out on his own. Carol goes with him even though he says he is fine on his own.

Carl gives Maggie a broken music box that he found. He thought she might like it. Gabriel pulls at his collar. He starts to tell Maggie about hair shirts. She interrupts him and tells him her dad used to be religious. She once was too. He offers to talk to her about losing her dad and Beth. He knows that she is in pain. She gets mad and tells him he doesn't know anything. He had a flock and didn't help them. He hid. "Don't act like that didn't happen." As they walk down the road more zombies appear. The sun beats down on them. Sasha tells Michonne they can kill the zombies. Michonne agrees with Rick. Sasha insists that she can take them. Michonne tells her that Tyreese was pissed too after losing Karen and it made him stupid. Sasha says she is not like him or ever was.

Carol and Daryl make their way through the woods. Carol suggests they go back. Daryl tells her she can go. Carol tells him that Beth saved her life. "She saved your life too right?" She gives him Beth's knife. "Were not dead. That's what you said. I know you. You have to let yourself feel it." She kisses him on the forehead and walks back to the road.

Rick stands by a bridge. He waits for a zombie to approach and the gang (who is lined up along the road) take turns pushing the zombies down the side of the road. Everything is going well until Sasha walks up to a zombie and stabs it in the head. The rest of the group go to help her before she is surrounded. Sasha almost stabs Michonne. Michonne tells her they need to get out of there. The group struggles to fight the zombies. Rick almost gets bitten but is saved by Daryl who walked out of the woods at that moment. As Sasha is killing one of the zombies she accidentally slashes Abraham's arm with her knife. Michonne gets mad at Sasha. "I told you to stop." she says. Sasha just gives her a dirty look in return.

Carl sees something on the road. It is a bunch of cars. Daryl goes back into the woods to by himself.Maggie looks through one of the cars. She grabs t he keys from the ignition and opens the trunk. Inside she finds a zombie of a woman that has been tied up. She looks like she was tied before she died. She appears to have been kidnapped. Maggie shuts the trunk lid and starts to walk away but comes back as the zombie thumps in the trunk. She tries to open the trunk again but the keys are stuck. She pulls out her gun to shoot the lock but Glenn stops her. He jiggles the keys and is able to open the trunk. He grabs his knife and kills the zombie. Maggie looks upset.

Daryl makes his way through the woods and comes upon the carcass of an animal. He looks to his left and sees a zombie that has been shot in the head. Thunder rumbles in the sky overhead.  Daryl joins the group on the side of the road. Abraham found a bottle of booze and drinks it even though it will make the dehydration worse. Eugene says he doesn't think things can get any worse. Rosita thinks things can definitely get worse.  Just then out of the woods come a pack of wild dogs ready to attack. Sasha shoots all of them before anyone else in the group can do anything. Rick collects some wood. Dog is what's for dinner tonight. Everyone sits around eating their dog. Noah stares at a bloody dog collar on the road. Noah tells Sasha that her brother tried to help him. He says he doesn't know if he is going to make it. Her reply, "Then you won't. Don't think. Just eat." You gotta do what you gotta do to survive. Gabriel takes his collar off and throws it in the fire.

As they walk down the road Glenn offers Maggie a drink. She rejects it. He wants her to talk to him. She never thought Beth was alive and after talking to Daryl and learning Beth had been with him she started to hope that Beth was alive. And then she found out on the same day that Beth was alive and then she wasn't. "Seeing her like that, made it feel like none of it was really there. Before this was just the dark part. I don't know if I want to fight it anymore." Glenn tells her she does want to fight. It is who she is. They have to keep fighting. She nods her head. He offers her the water again and she accepts it this time and has a drink. Sasha tells Abraham that drinking booze is going to make things worse. Abraham tells Sasha the way she is going she is going to make things worse. He tells her that she is with friends and she says they are not friends. Glenn offers Daryl some water but Daryl rejects it. Glenn tells him they can make it together. They can only make it together. Daryl goes off to look for water by himself again. As he walks through the woods he stumbles upon a barn. He sits on the ground nearby and pulls out a cigarette. He smokes and stares at the barn. He takes the cigarette and burns his hand with it. He lets the cigarette fall to the ground. He cries. He finally let himself feel the loss of Beth.

When Daryl rejoins the group Rick walks up to him and hands him a note that says, "From A Friend." It was left with some water bottles on the road. Rick does not anyone to drink it. Eugene says if it is a trap they are already in it and would like to think it is from a friend. Michonne thinks whoever left it might have put something in it. Eugene grabs a bottle and says it is quality assurance and goes to drink it but Abraham knocks it out of his hand. Rick says they can't. Rumbling thunder can be heard and then it begins to rain. They begin to laugh. They open up their mouths. Maggie and Daryl look sad. Sasha looks pissed. Gabriel says, "I'm sorry my Lord." They begin to fill their bottles and any containers that they have with water. A dark cloud with lightning is fast approaching. Daryl mentions the barn he found.

The group carefully enter the barn.  They check for zombies. Maggie finds a Bible on top of several books. In a stall she finds a zombie. She stabs it in the head as it crawls towards her. Carol notices the zombie had a gun. Maggie says the zombie should have used to to shoot herself. Carol points out that some people can't give up. Like them. Maggie doesn't respond. Rick, Glenn, Daryl, Michonne, and Carol sit around a small fire that they built. Carl sleeps nearby with Judith in his arms. Carol tells Rick that Carl will be just fine. Rick says he used to feel sorry for kids who had to grow up in the zombiepocalypse. But not now. He got it wrong. "Growing up is getting used to the world. This is easier for them." Michonne says this isn't the world. Glenn says it might be. Michonne says that that is giving up. Rick says this is their reality. "This is what we have to live with." When he was a kid he asked his grandfather if he had killed any Germans in the war but his grandfather refused to answer. When he asked if any Germans tried to kill him he got really quiet. "He said he was dead the minute he stepped into enemy territory. Everyday he woke and told himself, rest in peace. Now get up and go to war. And then after a few years of pretending he was dead he made it out alive. And that's the trick of it I think. We do what need to do and then we get to live. . . Because this is how we survive. We tell ourselves that we are the walking dead." Daryl finally speaks up.  He says, "We ain't them." Rick assures Daryl that they are not them. Daryl repeats, "We ain't them." and walks away.

Daryl walks to the front of the barn. The storm is howling outside. He looks out the door and sees a giant group of zombies headed their way. He closes the door but they are many.  Maggie looks up and sees Daryl pushing against the door and goes to help. Then Sasha sees and joins them. Eventually the rest of the group realizes what is going on and they all stand against the door to stop the zombies from coming in.

The next morning Maggie wakes up and looks straight at super cute Judith who is asleep in Rick's arms. She gets up and sees Daryl sitting by himself. She sits next to him and tells him he should get some sleep. "It's okay to rest now." They talk about how Tyreese was tough. Daryl says that Beth was also tough. She didn't know it but she was. He hands Maggie the music box that he fixed. Maggie thanks him and he lies down to sleep. She wakes Sasha up and they go outside. The storm had knocked down a bunch of trees that either killed or trapped the zombies. Sasha mentions the storm should have torn them apart.  Maggie and Sasha sit on a log and look at the sunrise. Sasha tells her that Noah told her he didn't think he could make it and that is how she feels. Maggie tells her she is going to make it, both of them will, and that's the hard part. Maggie opens the music box but it won't work. They laugh. Out of nowhere a man shows up. He tells them his name is Aaron. He says he is a friend. He wants to talk to the person in charge. Rick, right?  He has good news. The music box begins to play.

Final Thoughts
- I loved the speech that Rick gave about how they are the walking dead. The comic book is called the walking dead not because it refers to the zombies but because the survivors are the walking dead. This is the first time the characters and the writers are acknowledging that fact.
- Why didn't Daryl call out for help when he saw all the zombies coming towards the barn?
- The kidnapped zombie in the trunk of the car has got to be the saddest zombie in the history of zombies. First, she's kidnapped, then she dies, and finally she becomes a zombie? Talk about bad luck.
- I would not trust Aaron. He is too clean and knows too much. How does he know Rick's name? He is coming off like the people at Terminus.  Clean and friendly and then they eat you.

The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 9 "What Happened and What's Going On"

It went the way it had to.  The way it was always going to.

Someone is digging what appears to be a grave. A picture of a house. Maggie crying by the side of the road. Noah cries on the ground. We hear Gabriel giving a eulogy.  We see the gang running down a street in Atlanta looking for cars to use.  Photographs of twin boys. The prison. Noah talks to Rick about how Beth was going to go with him to Richmond. A shot of abandoned Woodbury. Rick talks to the group about taking Noah to Richmond. Glenn asks what they will do if Noah's neighborhood in Richmond isn't safe anymore. Michonne says they will keep looking for someplace that is safe. We see the group on the road drive past a sign reading South Carolina. We see Mika and Lizzie covered in blood smiling.  Mika says, "It's better now." Blood drips on the picture of the house from the beginning of the episode.

Rick asks Noah how far out to their destination.  Five miles. Rick uses the walkie talkie to tell Carol. Rick's group (Rick, Michonne, Noah, Tyreese, and Glenn) is going ahead. If they don't come back by a certain time Carol and her group will go looking for them. Noah tells Tyreese that his plan to trade the cops for Beth was a good plan. He tells him it worked but, "Just something else happened after." Which is true. Maybe if Beth hadn't tried to stab Dawn she would still be alive,  Tyreese responds, "It went the way it had to.  The way it was always going to." Tyreese tells Noah about how his dad you used to tell him it was his duty as a citizen of the world to know what is going on around the world. They listened to the news to face it.  Paying the high cost of living is what his dad called it. Noah tells him he still has a mom and a couple of twin brothers (the photographs from the beginning).  As they get closer to their destination Rick tells Tyreese to pull over.  They will go on foot through the woods. Noah tells them they don't need to but Rick wants to be cautious.

They park by some wrecked cars.  A zombie bangs on the windows from inside one of the cars. They pass by a skeleton in the woods. They see barbed wires all over the trees in the woods.  Michonne asks Noah if his people did it.  He said they always wanted to, so they must have put it up.  Rick ask if they have spotters or snipers.  Noah says that they built a perch on a truck that is sometimes in the front. Glenn looks around and says there is no spotter today. Noah bangs on the doors to his community but no one comes to open it.  Glenn climbs up the wall to look over and his expression says everything. He shakes his head no. Noah climbs over the wall.  The houses are burnt.  Burnt corpses lie on the lawns.  A zombie makes its way towards them. Noah falls to the ground crying. The settlement is abandoned. Tyreese tells Noah it is alright.  He is part of their group now. Rick tells Noah he is sorry. Rick wants to scavenge for supplies. Michonne goes off to kill the zombies coming towards them. Rick talks to Carol over the walkie and tells her it's gone. Tyreese stays with Noah will the other three go do a sweep.

Rick tells Glenn that Dawn didn't mean to shoot Beth.  He could see it on her face. But he wanted to kill her anyway. They came to Richmond for Beth because she wanted Noah to get home. It could have been a place for them too. Glenn tells Rick “I was thinking about that guy in the storage container, back in Terminus,” he says. “How I made it stop.” Things were okay after losing the prison because he got Maggie back. Losing Washington and losing Beth he wouldn't make them stop. "We'd run right by." And he would have shot Dawn whether it was right or wrong. Michonne interrupts him and says that they need to stop. "You can be out here too long."

Tyreese tells Noah how he stepped into a crowd of zombies to fight them until they took him because he was angry about all he had lost. But he survived and was able to be there for Judith later on and save her. That would not have happened if he had just given up. He chose to live. He tells Noah this isn't the end. Noah stands up and runs away from him. Tyreese follows. Noah runs up to his house. Tyreese says he doesn't want to go in there but Noah says he needs to see it. Tyreese agrees and says he will go first. Tyreese pounds on the house and waits. Then he goes in. We see Noah's mother on the ground, her head is bashed in. Noah covers her body with a blanket. He whispers to her that he tried to get back sooner. Tyreese hears zombie sounds coming from behind a closed door. As he walks toward it he finds one of Noah's brothers dead on his bed. He looks at the photographs of the twins on the wall. The zombie twin sneaks up behind Tyreese and bites him on the arm. Tyreese kicks him away and Noah kills his brother with a model airplane. Noah tells Tyreese to hand on and he will get the others. Tyreese is losing a lot of blood.

We can hear radio noises. A man with a British accent (Andrew Lincoln) is giving the news.  Sixty-eight citizens of the republic have died in four deadly attacks. Those responsible are making their way unfettered across the republic. Tyreese shakes as he covers his wound. Martin appears and tells him that he tried to warn Tyreese.  Tyreese is the kind of man that saves babies. Does he think that Gareth and his group would have followed them if Tyreese would have just shot him or cut him up like Sasha eventually did in the church? Maybe Bob wouldn't be dead and maybe Beth would still be alive. Bob appears and says it is bulls#$%@.  Things happened they way they were supposed to, just like this. The man's voice can be heard again over the radio relating how the violent attacks continue. Martin says that if Tyreese hadn't lied maybe the bill would have been paid. "The bill has to be paid." says the Governor. "You have to earn your keep." He asks Tyreese if he remembers that he told the Guv that he would do his part to earn his keep. Zombie sounds and radio static are heard. We then see Lizzie and Mika again.  They are covered in blood. They tell Tyreese it is better now. The Guv says it is not better now and as he approaches Tyreese he turns into a zombie. Tyreese struggles to fight off the zombie. He puts his already bitten arm in front of the zombie and as it bites him he bashes it in the head with a rock. The zombies blood drips on the picture of the house (the same image from the episodes opening).

Michonne suggests to Rick and Glenn that they use some garage doors to close up the break until they can get them back up. Rick says there are no sight lines because they are surrounded by forest. That is probably why they were attacked. Michonne says they could cut down the trees and use them to build the wall up. She leads them to the break in the wall.  They find the bottom half of several bodies on the ground.  Just the bottoms and some tire tracks. The walls are crumbling as is Michonne's dream of staying there. Glenn says it doesn't matter.  Whether Rick, Glenn, or Daryl had shot Dawn.  It doesn't matter. Michonne wants to go to Washington now. Eugene may have lied about the cure but Eugene did the math and figured out it was the most likely place to survive. There may be people there. They are close.  It could be a chance. "Instead of just being here. Instead of just making it. . . Don't you want one more day with a chance?" Rick says they should go to Washington. Noah screams for help.  He is trapped by two zombies. They kill the zombies. Noah tells them Tyreese has been bitten at his house.

Radio static. We see Beth playing a guitar and singing. Images of the prison and Woodbury flash by as we hear Judith cry. Beth sings about a struggling man having to move on. She tells Tyreese it is okay. Bob also says it is okay if he doesn't want to be a part of it. Martin tells him being a part of it is being now. He has to open his eyes. Lizzie tells him he doesn't have to. Mika says it is better now. The Guv says he didn't know what he was talking about when he agreed to earn his keep. The Guv made him see it. Tyreese didn't adapt or change. Then he mocks him for forgiving Carol. This is all there is. Tyreese struggles to stand up.  He tells the Guv he didn't know who he was talking to when he said he would earn his keep. "But I know who I am. I know what happened and what is going on. I know." Everything that the Governor was is dead and it's not over. He forgave Carol because it is not over." He didn't turn away. He kept listening to the news so he could do what he needed to do to help. "I'm not giving up. People like me, they can live. Ain't nobody got to die today." The Governor pushes him to the ground. Lizzie and Mika take his hand and pull on it. Then we see Rick pulling his hand and Michonne cuts off his arm.

We see Rick and Glenn helping Tyreese down the street towards the gate. This image is juxtaposed with the earlier shot of Rick and the group looking for cars. They break the chain on the doors and zombies come towards them.  They put Tyreese on the ground as they fight off the zombies. As they carry him back towards the car we get flashbacks of scenes from Tyreese's life. His real conversation with Martin in the cabin, the house where Lizzie killed Mika, Sasha killing Martin, Rick beating up Tyreese, and the Governor telling Tyreese he has to pay the bill. They ignore any zombies that come towards them. rick tells Tyreese to hold on. Beth sings as they carry him to the car. Rick calls Carol on the walkie and tells her to keep Sasha and Carl away from this. They bump into one of the cars in the wreck and all of the torsos from those bodies they found earlier come tumbling out. They have X carved into their foreheads. The voice on the radio says there are reports of cannibalism. Tyreese tells them to turn it off. Bob asks if he is sure. Beth tells him it is okay. Lizzie and Mika says it is not just okay, it is better now. They all smile at him. Tyreese leans his head against the window and dies. Outside the sun is shining.

A dead Tyreese is place in the grave that we saw being dug in the beginning of the episode. Gabriel gives his eulogy. Everyone from the group takes a turn putting some dirt over his body. Sasha looks like she is in shock. Rick finishes covering the grave.

- I was actually surprised that Tyreese lived this long. I figured he would die soon. It all started with his encounter with Martin from Terminus earlier this season. Martin had a point when he said that those who can't kill don't last very long. Tyreese was really lucky that he survived as long as he did since he lost his ability to kill. He also seemed to become the moral compass for the group and on this show that equals death. See Dale and Hershel.
- Tyreese spent this episode listening to ghosts telling him that he had to pay for his crimes or that everything was meant to be and it was okay. He needed to choose.  Should he live or die? For a while there I thought he would live. As soon as he said he wanted the radio to be turned off you knew he chose death.  He no longer wanted to be a citizen of this world.
- I like the way this episode was shot with the crosscutting of images at the beginning to foreshadow events that would occur throughout the episode. I also like the filters they used to give it the look and feel of a dream.
- The song Beth sings is "Struggling Man" by Jimmy Cliff.
Lyrics:
Every man has a right to live
Love is all that we have to give
Together we struggle by your will to survive
Then together we fight just to stay alive
Struggling man has got to move
Struggling man, no time to lose
I'm a struggling man
And I've got to move on
As the sun lights the day and the moon lights the night
Struggling man keeps reaching for the higher heights
So we plan for tomorrow as we live for today
Like a flower we bloom and then later fade away
Struggling man has got to move
Struggling man, no time to lose
I'm a struggling man
And I've got to move on
Struggling man has got to move
Struggling man, no time to lose
I'm a struggling man
And I've got to move on
Struggling man, struggling man
Struggling man, struggling man
Struggling man, struggling man
